Atm I live in a beautiful detached 14 bedroomed Georgian mansion with 10978 acres but I don't have an Orchard. I'm even considering moving to a 13 bedoomed mansion with an orchard!! (can you beleive it?)

you don't have an orchard? Do you also not have a gardening staff of 4 and a paddock for the ponies? How do you cope?

sugarfree · 29/06/2006 15:31

Do you know where I can get giraffes from?I have a herd of Highland cattle out the front but I really want giraffes too.

I have a huge orchard, nbut don't go there much as the gardener picks the fruit with his team and gives it to cook.Besides, that's where we keep the rare breed pigs.

I live in a 4 bed 1930s semi and I have an orchard. It has 1 eating apple tree, 1 plum tree, 1 pear tree and a cooking apple tree. That counts as an orchard doesn't it?

zippitippitoes · 29/06/2006 15:32

with a stream babbling beyond and a wildflower meadow

Greensleeves · 29/06/2006 15:32

trinityrhino · 29/06/2006 15:32

well, we do have 4 apple trees, 2 plum trees, a crab apple and a greengage tree in our garden, sort of running down the both sides, does that count???

Northerner · 29/06/2006 15:33

We have a few bruised apples, some pears, and a few black bananas in the kitchen-am I just embarrassing myself by asking if that counts as an orchard?

meowmix · 29/06/2006 15:34

no love, what you want is an arboretum, none of this half-hearted orchard nonsense. Oh and a mountain of course.

and a graden temple..I've always wanted one of those

sugarfree · 29/06/2006 15:36

Nigella does quince recipes.
I always skip that page.

meowmix · 29/06/2006 15:36

quince is sort of a cross between an apple and something else, lovely roasted, not nice raw imo. Medlar is something else of the fruity appley variety I think.

(ooooh hark at me and my knowledge of fruits

oliveoil · 29/06/2006 15:37

I have a bog standard 4 bed detached with 72 acres of natural woodland and a stream.

No quinche though

CarolinaMoose · 29/06/2006 15:37

I have a greengage tree. No bloody clue what to do with the little green bastards, but at least I have it.

Also 3 apple trees, two of which have gone biannual and one sterile cherry (or maybe none of my neighbours have an appropriate tree for fertilising it).

I would love a medlar tree. You can't buy medlars commercially, so I could make a killing selling them at the bottom of my drive, with an honesty box .

zippitippitoes · 29/06/2006 15:37

medlar is so esoteric that you have to wait until it rots to eat it
