Please give me some ideas for children's party games (7 years old)

Pass the parcel is dire, musical statues ends in punch ups. DS party (7) is next week and I'm trying to put together a military schedule so that I don't have to think or respond or be spontaneous, I can just work my way through the list. Mostly boys there and lots of the prizes will have an England / World cup theme (because that's what was going cheap in the market today), but am wondering about games that don't require too much energy and stamina and nerves of steel from adults. Any suggestions?

And also, how long do each of the games last? I reckon 5 minutes. Is that too short?

Target practice - throwing beanbag / ball / rolled up paper balls into a box (couldhave different size boxes for various points)

all games can be adapted to football theme...

eg. Duck Duck Goose could be Owen Owen Beckham.... iyswim

get them doing at least one craft type thing.... a mask from paper plate decorated with tissue / felt tips / pipe cleaners etc.
or giant drawing where all join in to make one big picture (cld be football theme) with roll of lining paper on floor and then on wall as mural....
will take longer than musical bumps and be less wearing on the nerves.... good luck. how many punters are coming??
my ds2's 7th party tomorrow... game of football and pizza (not at home!)

Hmm. Like the idea of a muriel as well. I have a very long brick wall in the garden that I could just blu tack a roll of IKEA drawing paper to...

Cut out or draw outlines of football shirt shapes - kids can then design their own shirts

I like Whizz' idea of the footie shirts though. You can get lining paper that is cheap and sturdy. Don't forget pin the metatarsal on Rooney lol

dd has 2 Spanish friends and at their parties they play a tradtional game (don't know what it called).

It seems to be a balloon or something covered with papier mache and then painted. it's filled with sweets or little toys and then hung off an line and the children take turns to bash it with a stick to release the toys/sweets.

Sounds ok but might it encourage boys to get a bit erm, aggressive?

do get one with strings to pull not stick to bash... is lethal weapon requiring real force. dangerous in small excited hands and v wearing on the adult hostesses nerves....

Ah the pinata - excellent, I was just about to ask if anyone knew about that game where you whack something with a stick. I saw a good version last week with a pirate's chest - was thinking of just making one with a cardboard box, but then I thought, maybe I'd want a football shaped one, but can't think how to fashion a cardboard box into a football shaped object....

Ah but I have an apple tree on which I can hang the thing, and make them line up to whack it. And as it's outside, it doesn't matter about damage. I like the blindfold innovation as well.

ooooh go on go on go on! you can produce with triumphant air at end of party and put small going home pressies inside (if you believe in all that guff)... excellent finale.
