Various packs of cards

Which we all play together

And the following which Dp and I play (when we have time)

How old are your kids?
The Business Game
Scrabble
Kensington
Mastermind
Battleships

HadALittleFaithBaby · 06/05/2013 14:17

If you can get hold of it, try Rat race! We got it off eBay. It's by the same people as monopoly but there's an outright winner and is so much fun!

solar trader.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 06/05/2013 14:26

We love the Mona Lisa game (you have to work out which of you has the 'real' Mona Lisa) but it might be a bit hard for little ones.

Cranium's quite good, although I actually like the card game (Ziggity I think) more then the actual board games.

For a good card game for three, have you ever played Newmarket? Or cribbage can be played with three, but might be a bit complicated.

Cranium's brilliant - and variations like cranium conga. Not sure if your children are a bit young at the moment but definitely one for the future.

I love payday. They don't sell it in the shops anymore but I managed to get mine from amazon.

IWantWine · 06/05/2013 15:25

Backgammon. Mixture of skill and luck.

Iwishitwouldgetwarmer · 06/05/2013 15:29

We've got the QI game and it's really good.

letseatgrandma · 06/05/2013 16:03

Risk
Carcassone
Pass the pig
Key to the kingdom

KatAndKit · 06/05/2013 16:09

Settlers of Catan. It is brilliant for family game - I'd reckon age 8 upwards. I don't think it is in the shops anymore but you can buy it online. It is like civilizations as a board game but no war or fighting or taking over anyone else's settlements. It's a great strategy game and unlike Monopoly, it does not take hours to play, it is usually about 60-90 minutes.

comeonbishbosh · 06/05/2013 18:25

Ticket to Ride
Cacasonne

Thumbtack · 06/05/2013 18:45

Yahtzee - good for maths too
Risk - think this where you invade countries so good for geography perhaps

both great games

oddslippers · 06/05/2013 18:51

Qwirkle is good and really easy to pick up the rules, it's well made too. Got it for less than £15 from Amazon

oddslippers · 06/05/2013 18:53

Orchard toys are good, I like scaredy cat add it's a real game of chance so good for the younger ones.

Bakingtins · 06/05/2013 18:54

Lego shave the sheep
UNO

RandomMess · 06/05/2013 18:55

Frustration, mainly luck Smile

VerySmallSqueak · 06/05/2013 18:55

Snakes and ladders
Chinese chequers

notcitrus · 06/05/2013 18:56

Lexicon
Pass the Pigs
Carcassone (not 'the city', the original and then any expansions)
Settlers of Catan, if youngest is 7 or more - bit complex
Scotland Yard - get child and adult to cooperate as detectives
Bohnanza - ace trading game, lots of options for shorter game etc
Lost Cities, but is only 2 players.

Madamecastafiore · 06/05/2013 18:56

Not a board game, is a card game, called Dobble. Is bloody brilliant. From age 4 upwards.

Monopoly millionaire is great too, lasts less time than the normal one which is bloody boring!

ThreeBeeOneGee · 06/05/2013 18:59

Ww would add:

Carcassonne
Lego Creationary
Ingenious
Cadoo
Uno Extreme
Wobally

LadyBeagleEyes · 06/05/2013 18:59

The most obvious one is Scrabble which isn't on your list.
Though board games are really bored games for me, unless they can be finished in about an hour.

ThreeBeeOneGee · 06/05/2013 19:03

There's a card game called 'Set' that is all the rage in our family at the moment. Gets very competitive though.

PaperLantern · 06/05/2013 19:07

Ticket to ride (original USA map works for 8+)
Settlers of Catan (the expansion Settlers of Catan Cities and Knights is great)
Lords of Waterdeep (my favourite favourite favourite)
7 wonders
Dominion card game (hinterlands is in my opinion a superb expansion)
Eaten by Zombies

Pancakeflipper · 06/05/2013 19:09

Mexican Train.
