The original did look a bit battered and shrunken anyway - good job they have such a clear picture of him - I should have thought as long as he's approximately the right size and shape and scruffiness he will do...really really hope so!! (They need one of those Which? magazine machines that simulates years of fair wear and tear!)

Is strawberry home yet Skie?

To Skie's DH, I have to just apologise for our lack of curtains(we have a tatty sheet up that is....wait for it.....stuck to the wall with parcel tape. Oh the shame). I am hugely embarrassed that I didn't say something when you were here, we had new windows fitted before Xmas and still can't find any material we like to get some curtains made, hence the pikey sheet and tape.

BTW Mr+Mrs Skie, the chocolates were Gooooood, but don't tell the ladies on the mumsnet bigmamas club thread, it can be our little secret. No-body will find out , will they????

yeah yeah emmatmg, that old decorating story!!!
I had a TERRIBLE thought about strawberry - I had visions of our strawberry returning, having Skie's DD fall on him with tears of joy, and then a few weeks later, the other strawberry appearing from under a pile of toys or something!!!!!!
Am I barred from MN for thinking such a thing?

Actually Lisa I thought of that as a possible way to get new strawberry to pass as old strawberry. Hide him somewhere that Skie's DD will look for something(ie bottom of toy box) and act like he's been there all alone, then the difference in size might just get over looked because of the solved mystery.

And....the curtain story IS true

I believe you emma! If only cos you are our Mumsnet hero for January! I have a friend who once told a new man that she had recently been burgled - her flat was such a mess! I couldn't believe she had said that to him - or that he had believed her. Frankly any burglars would flee her flat!

LOL Lisa......I could use that line here too.

Lisa, I have a friend whose ILs were burgled while they were away, when the police came they told her and her DH the place had been ransacked and she and DH had to tell the police er, no, it always looked like that! (Our house is probably worse. Friend's DH insists on leaving their house immaculate - hoovered, dusted, everything - when they go on holiday.)

emma, I noticed your windows in the photo! You have top openers...not sure if they're tilt and turn but our windows are just like them but the other way round.

Hi again! Sorry, couldn't log on as pre-arranged dinner/ work thing ...but dh rang and told me strawberry mark 2 was too big.
He has now come home, and we are trying to work out what to do. If it's surgery, then it will take a bit of time I'm afraid... but we know for sure that dd won't think it's him at the moment so we're going to have to hide him... so no reunion yet!
Thanks so much for everything and we'll keep you posted... I can't say how great you've been - and he is the strawberry - just a bigger model. Sorry!

Janh, the police said the same to me about my car when it was nicked once 'Afraid they left it in a terrible state madam' Ahem. 'oh no, did they?' said I Didn't have a child to grass me up at the time, feel sure he would if I tried it now...Gutted that strawberry is too big skie but fingers crossed for a successful operation.

www, I bet he would grass you up now. Kids are so honest - bless them -

skie, bad news about strawberry - but he was never going to be exactly like the old one (smell, dilapidation etc) so whatever you do size-wise must help.

Thing is, I was thinking earlier, I know you said your DD rejected the similar-but-bigger strawberry when she had her own one, but a substitute that's not exactly the same might just do at a pinch, now the other one has vanished?

If she knew how hard you've been trying for her...!

This is probably really stupid but would it be worth trying putting new strawberry through the washing machine and hoping it shrinks? Just a little? Would be soooo lovely if this had a happy ending...

elena2 · 19/01/2004 23:42

Skie,

Would she definitely not accept the story that Strawberry has grown in the time he has been away, just like her?
