My 4 year old daughter has lost her number one toy, (a cuddly strawbery with green arms and legs) her boy, her main man, the thing she has slept with and kept close to her since babyhood. (She even had a birthday cake in his image last year, and he is in just about every photo ever taken of her...) It happened four months ago (only explanation is that he went out with the rubbish) and she's actually getting worse, not better (we convinced her that he was lost temporarily in the house, lying waiting to be found, which she believed.) Now she beginning to doubt it and talks about him every night, and first thing in the morning. Last night she started to cry and said, 'I don't think we'll ever find Strawberry..' Whenever anyone says anything like, "We've got a surprise for you..", her first reponse is 'Have you found Strawberry??' I am so desperate, and HAVE to find her another - trouble is he came from a charity shop for 20 p, and all it said on his label was 'PEEKO', which appears to be a toy manufacturer in Korea! He has eyes, a big smile, a red handle and a few leaves on his head! He is about the size of an adult hand! We have photos we can email if anyone has a spare (unloved) toy that fits this description. PLEASE, if there are any mums out there with any ideas on how to find a toy like this, please, please let me know!

I asked dh to read this thread last night and when he finished he looked tearful (no, really, he was tearful - he cries when watching films and stuff too - I'm the hard hearted one in the family!) and a bit cross. He was cross because he feels that after reading it all, he deserved a happy ending and until it gets to Skie's dd, it is not a proper happy ending!

Looks like we are going to have to wait til Monday before the POst Office do their stuff, Skie, will you be able to collect on a weekday?

Ailsa · 17/01/2004 14:09

I'm going to tell my dh about the recorded delivery thing (he works for the po), strawberry will probably arrive BEFORE there's any update on track and trace.

skie · 17/01/2004 14:14

dh's work colleague lives in the same town as Emma so he could always pick it up on a week day and give it to dh at work.
We chould have gone to Basingstoke and picked him up in person.
I think I may have to stop logging on until Monday as I can't take anymore of this.

Popsy, just to let you know Milo's finally on his way to you. He may arrive with a bit of a headache as we had to squeeze him through possibly the smallest ever postbox aperture, but at least it had a 5.00pm Saturday collection.

popsycal · 17/01/2004 15:47

carla - thank you soooo much - you are a star1
where is the latest strawberry news?

emmatmg · 17/01/2004 15:54

I'm afraid I've given up hope of a delivery today.

Roll on Monday.

popsycal · 17/01/2004 15:55

oh no!!

Naughtynoonoo · 17/01/2004 16:53

What an amazing thread, I have just read all the messages and cannot wait till MOnday, I hope "Strawberry" arrives sage and sound. Mumnetters must be the nicest bunch of people in the world, if only the world was full of people like them - it would surely be a much better place. I was sitting here thinking (before Emma found "Strawberry" who could we send this thread to - to find "Strawberry". I just wonder how many hits this site will have on Monday to find out if "Strawberry" arrives safe and sound. ALso looking forward to hearing about the reunion story, at least you have the extra time to plan something really special for the homecoming! Emmatmg - you are surely a lifesaver - we should all recommend you for an MBE or something!

Carla · 17/01/2004 17:06

Just a thought - and I haven't the faintest idea about how to do this - but could we email this thread to the Royal Mail website? Might be good publicity for them if they intervene and do something good?? Or am I stark raving???? Yes is a perfectly acceptable reply.

emmatmg · 17/01/2004 17:07

That is a good idea carla....but I haven't a clue how to do it either!

Carla · 17/01/2004 18:47

Anyone know how to contact Tech?

SoupDragon · 17/01/2004 18:52

Email [email protected] and you'll get a quicker response than emailing Tech.

Ailsa · 17/01/2004 19:36

I spoke to dh when he came back from work, he said recorded delivery 'should' take the same length of time as normal post, so if it was posted first class it should arrive at the same time as if the same person has posted a non recorded delivery item first class.

Does that make sense.

emmatmg · 17/01/2004 19:40

Oh right ....well we didn't get any post today and maybe mum missed the last post yesterday when she went to the post office.

either that or he's being held ransom somewhere!!!!!!!!

collision · 17/01/2004 19:46

Thank goodness your dd doesnt know anything about all this......she would think Strawberry had abandoned her again. I hope he arrives by Monday as Im going to Nice on Tuesday and wont have internet access to find out about the reunion. There are people all over the world waiting for it!!

magnum · 17/01/2004 20:06

What an absolutely fantastic thread Don't usually read these long ones but this one had me hooked all the way through. Brilliant.

Demented · 17/01/2004 20:38

I've just read this, it's fantastic. I'm on tenterhooks now waiting to see what happens next! Well done Emma!

Posey · 17/01/2004 21:18

Just got in and the kids to bed...
I can't believe we have to wait til Monday. Actually I have no idea how you're keeping going Skie.
Not long to wait really in the grand scheme of things. Lokking forward to hearing from you on Monday

Epigirl · 18/01/2004 11:13

SUpposed to be visiting my friend tomorrow morning but although she has a computer, only her dh uses it...arghhh! I think I'll have to ask her to come here instead - I'm desperate to find out about strawberry!!

Really hope he arrives tomorrow and it all works out

SHIREENSMOM · 18/01/2004 17:03

this is so lovely good luck and i bet that big smile on dd's face will be worth it all xxxxxx

popsycal · 18/01/2004 19:46

what time does your post usually arrive?
just to clarify - is it arriving at emma's tomorrow or at skie's?
I am going to have to log on from work which i rarely am able to do
told dh this tsory and he agrees that it is wonderful!!!
what are the finer details of the post then?

emmatmg · 18/01/2004 20:13

Hi popsy, strawberry has been sent to me and I then have to call skie to let her know of his safe arrival. Her DH has a work collegue that lives near me so I think he will collect strawberry in person and take him to work to hand over to his new family I was looking forward to meeting skie as the original plan was that they would pick him up on saturday when the rec.del arrived but our plans were scuppered and postie didn't arrive.

Our post is rarely delivered the same time every day so it's difficult to know when to expect him and her (him=strawberry, her=my post lady ) However you can all be sure that I will not be leaving the house, except to take DS1 to school, until he arrives and for the 20 minutes I am out on the school run I'll leave a note on the door telling mrs postie to bloody well wait for me to get home!!!!!!!

popsycal · 18/01/2004 20:17

good on you emma!
the nation is waiting.....

Chandra · 18/01/2004 20:59

I'm getting so nervous! hope he is ok!

skie · 18/01/2004 21:56

Emma,
If he does arrive tomorrow, dh will come and get him from your house after work - if that's okay. ( eight-ish? not sure how long it takes to get there from London?) Neither of us can wait for his friend to bring him to work next morning.
Then (if he looks acceptable) we can sneak him in with dd while she sleeps. She'll wake up and see him. And cry and not believe it!
