My 4 year old daughter has lost her number one toy, (a cuddly strawbery with green arms and legs) her boy, her main man, the thing she has slept with and kept close to her since babyhood. (She even had a birthday cake in his image last year, and he is in just about every photo ever taken of her...) It happened four months ago (only explanation is that he went out with the rubbish) and she's actually getting worse, not better (we convinced her that he was lost temporarily in the house, lying waiting to be found, which she believed.) Now she beginning to doubt it and talks about him every night, and first thing in the morning. Last night she started to cry and said, 'I don't think we'll ever find Strawberry..' Whenever anyone says anything like, "We've got a surprise for you..", her first reponse is 'Have you found Strawberry??' I am so desperate, and HAVE to find her another - trouble is he came from a charity shop for 20 p, and all it said on his label was 'PEEKO', which appears to be a toy manufacturer in Korea! He has eyes, a big smile, a red handle and a few leaves on his head! He is about the size of an adult hand! We have photos we can email if anyone has a spare (unloved) toy that fits this description. PLEASE, if there are any mums out there with any ideas on how to find a toy like this, please, please let me know!

God we all must have far too much time on our hands

Although I can't help I do rememeber the tale of Pink Teddy very well, he got lost however fate must have been shining on us as DD won a teddy 2 days earlier in a pass the parcel game, so it was seemless change. However a YEAR later I was sorting out my wardrobe, pulled out all the drawers and Pink Teddy was there, underneath the drawers!!! Now at least we have 2 choices Although BT nearly went recently, I found him at the creche the next day

God, I am so touched - can't thank you enough. I will get dh to scan pics in here (is that technically possible?) We do have one scanned in to the computer (whatever that means..) Will get him on the case this evening!

I think I have PMT.......I just rang my Mum 1500 miles away bawling about this poor child and the lost Strawberry!! Not like me.

Anyway, she had a thought. Does anyone remember years ago a series of books or maybe even TV programmes about fruits and vegetables? The Fruit Gang? Or Vegetable Gang? They were called things like Bertie Blackberry and had adventures and things. If Strawberry was one of these then it might be possible to trace it back that way.

Can anyone remember?

popsycal · 15/01/2004 17:43

oh dear ...hold on!
is it the munch bunch?

I definitely think we are on to something! I have emailed 'Jedi'! at a website and he deals with all sorts of things like this. Will let you know.

Look at the Munch Bunch website Skie. Does the Strawberry look familiar? If so, there might be a way to trace the old toys somehow.

codswallop · 15/01/2004 18:27

the fruit gand was a series of books - one of which is in our doctors waiting room
they were written by a 12 year old and bloody read like it.(over and over...)

LOl at crunchie - youa re all barking. esp collision - very sweet! made me smile

I think the fairest thing to do (and I have beent here with a cuddly leopard) is to be TRUTHFUL and say it has gone and get her another one

I've been a Mumsnet lurker for ages now but haven't been brave enough to post. Although I can't help with Strawberry (sorry, I wish I could and wish you all the best - wasn't there someone some time ago who really did find a replacement for something via MN?), all the feelings about adored toys and heart-rending loss have reminded me of a book called "Little Boy Lost" by Marghanita Laski, which is utterly wonderful (I think).

I hope this isn't inappropriately off-topic. And I promise it isn't a plug - just thought it might sort of fit in with how people were feeling.

codswallop · 15/01/2004 18:34

welcome the bink

Beccarollover · 15/01/2004 19:19

welcome binkie

awwwww the garden gang has brought back LOTS of memories of childhood ahhdhhhh

Is "strawberry" penelope strawberry from there?

SecondhandRose · 15/01/2004 19:19

You could also post on the Wanted column of ukparents.co.uk It may help find your strawberry.

A friend of mine once left a doll on the roof of her car and drove off, they never saw it again, she had to make up all sorts of excuses as to what happened to Precious.

popsycal · 15/01/2004 19:20

or is she sally strawberry fromt he munch bunch?

popsycal · 15/01/2004 19:22

is this her in a book?

Carla · 15/01/2004 19:25

Skie,

Please get DH to scan in a photo asap and put us all out of our misery! Can't wait to help!

Enchanted · 15/01/2004 19:35

I think the idea about the post cards is a good one. DS had something like this but I think it was a tomato, I will look when I get home.
Email me a photo and I'll see if I can make you a replacement. [email protected]

sammac · 15/01/2004 19:46

Skie
Don't give up hope. I very kindly was sent a replacement Ellie for my ds after a similar post started last year.

Mumsnetters are the kindest people you can come across, and will do their best to help.

Good luck.
ps I'll keep my eyes out at boot sales - I was a fiend when looking for an Ellie!

emmatmg · 15/01/2004 20:11

SKIE..........I THINK I'VE FOUND HIM.............
My mum has one, this is his discription-

~A leafy thing one his head
~Green arms and legs
~White hands
~Green boots with sort of petal socks
~and most important of all PEEKO on the label

Is this your little girls strawberry? My mum said if this is him you can have him

popsycal · 15/01/2004 20:12

emma!!!
wow!!!!!
this sounds like him doesnt it!!!

charliecat · 15/01/2004 20:14

If it is sally strawberry there was one in a charity near me just 2 days ago, i could go there tommorow if need be.

skie · 15/01/2004 20:20

Thanks again. We had already checked out the Munch Bunch and Garden Gang strawberrys and they look different. (What do you think?) I will call Peeko tomorrow, as it seems a possible lead, and also post ukparents.
Most important though, HERE IS A PICTURE! I have no idea how ds got so attached to this thing - though the story of how she got it is family legend which ds tell over and over to anyone who'd listen. (We were shopping, she was crying in the pram, I saw him in a junk shop and waved him at her to pacify her and it was instant love.. Anyway, over the years I've seen bigger versions of the same toy in charity shops, so I know he's out there! Here's the link! Please send it to anyone who'll look!
