My 4 year old daughter has lost her number one toy, (a cuddly strawbery with green arms and legs) her boy, her main man, the thing she has slept with and kept close to her since babyhood. (She even had a birthday cake in his image last year, and he is in just about every photo ever taken of her...) It happened four months ago (only explanation is that he went out with the rubbish) and she's actually getting worse, not better (we convinced her that he was lost temporarily in the house, lying waiting to be found, which she believed.) Now she beginning to doubt it and talks about him every night, and first thing in the morning. Last night she started to cry and said, 'I don't think we'll ever find Strawberry..' Whenever anyone says anything like, "We've got a surprise for you..", her first reponse is 'Have you found Strawberry??' I am so desperate, and HAVE to find her another - trouble is he came from a charity shop for 20 p, and all it said on his label was 'PEEKO', which appears to be a toy manufacturer in Korea! He has eyes, a big smile, a red handle and a few leaves on his head! He is about the size of an adult hand! We have photos we can email if anyone has a spare (unloved) toy that fits this description. PLEASE, if there are any mums out there with any ideas on how to find a toy like this, please, please let me know!

Hi. I have just been on the phone to my sister, Collision who keeps crying over this strawberry!! After reading all the messages im so very glad you have found it and hope ur daughter will be happy!!!

skie · 15/01/2004 22:38

I was advised to try looking on mumsnet when we lost him in October, but just didn't think it would help. Had no idea how amazing this site - is... I only posted the appeal yesterday morning (after a particularly harrowing night)... still can't quite believe it.
We have a video camera, so will video the reunion!
DD is asleep upstairs with no one special to cuddle (we offered various replacements but none have stuck) and the thought that strawberry could be lying back beside her in a couple of days.. words can't say how it feels!

Goodness knows how I missed this thread earlier but I've just read it from the bottom and wow! What a wonderful drama with a fantastic ending - well done Emmatmg and your mum! How great is this site?

clairabelle · 15/01/2004 22:39

Roscoe · 15/01/2004 22:40

I've got to stay off this thread or I'll be blubbing all night!

Ayz · 15/01/2004 22:41

Aaw thats really lovely! When you get strawberry, you should get him/her a little bag and tell ur dd that he's been on holiday!

emmatmg · 15/01/2004 22:51

Right, I must switch off this PC, DS3 needs a bottle and my god look at the time!

So chuffed that I found Strawberry.

Kayleigh · 15/01/2004 22:54

I've just come back home after an evening out and had to log on to find out what was happening in the Strawberry saga.
Emmatmg you are an absolute star. This is so brilliant. Has bought tears to my eyes !

3 cheers for Mumsnet !!!

emkaren · 15/01/2004 22:56

This is definitely my favourite thread EVER! Can't stop smiling and more importantly can't wait to hear about the reunion.
Mumsnet forever!

CountessDracula · 15/01/2004 23:21

Skie you really must print this thread off for your ds and show it to him when he is 21 or something!

When I was little I had a kangaroo that my grandmother in Australia knitted for me, I was obsessed with him and I remember my parents nearly turning around and driving back to the S of France from Calais when he was missing when I was about 5, he turned up in the bottom of a sleeping bag! I lost him when I was about 20 god knows how, when I was at college.

When I was about 35, a year before dd was born, I got an xmas present from my mum, opened it and there was Kanga holding a card saying Are You My Mummy?!!!!

When my grandmother had died my mum had been clearing out her stuff and found the original pattern from 1966 and had knitted me a new one. I cried for about half an hour when I opened the present, just goes to show that these things don't just affect you when you are little.

Kanga is now snuggled up with dd aged 16 months in her cot....

emmatmg · 15/01/2004 23:27

CD, even my hard nosed DH said Awwwwww to that!

Couldn't resist another peek before I go to bed

ponygirl · 16/01/2004 00:51

Sooooo pleased! Definitely brought a tear to the eye. can't wait for the reunion! What a wonderful bunch mumsnetters are. Well done emmatmg!

Blackduck · 16/01/2004 06:51

Thank god! Had to get up and log in this morning to find out where we were on this! Great that it was found, was discussing this with a colleague and even he said he gets a bit jealous when his little boys get hold of 'his' teddie! So it's true, we all get attracted to something....! Now I'm just wondering wether I should go a buy a spare Mr. Snuggle!

alibubbles · 16/01/2004 07:36

I think you are all brilliant!
Mumsnet came to my rescue when the mindie I look after lost his beloved M&S rabbit. I ended up with three, but I was able to pass two on last year in response to an ad in the local paper about a lttle girl who had lost her bunny.

The mum and I met outside M& S, she was so pleased, happy ending!

Carla · 16/01/2004 09:12

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.

Carla · 16/01/2004 09:14

Meant to add - we've got a Milo that's at the bottom of the toy chain - what sort are you after?

codswallop · 16/01/2004 09:41
