I know this has been done so many times before, but I think it is well overdue for a reminder.

Please, please everyone get people to make sure they are on the \link{http://www.uktransplant.org.uk\Transplant Register}.

And if you can put up posters, leaflets ANYWHERE, then click the link for free promo material too.

Well done SG. Yep have been on it for years as well as everyone I know who is willing. A surprising number of people I know don't want to though. Can't understand it.. if you are dead, what possibly use can you have for your organs??!

lenaschildminding · 22/06/2006 09:27

I lost my son to cancer nearly four years ago, during his time in hospital, he made many friends, the majority have leukaemia. Out of these friends, 26 have died. They were all under 13 years old, most of them around 3 - 5 years old. Already a blood donor, I had some comfort in knowing I was helping these children, many of which were my blood group. I also joined the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow register, in the hope that one day I could save a life. Sadly, I was diagnosed with Pernicious Aneamia last year and had to be taken off both blood and bone marrow registers. I was devestated. I would like to say to anyone that is aged between 18-40, in general good health, weighing over 8st, PLEASE, PLEASE join the register. One of my son's friends has recently relapsed and is awaiting a bone marrow transplant in Leicester Royal Infirmary, she is 9 years old, as my son would have been, 70% of patients rely on the help of unrelated donors, please take a short moment of your life to help save someone elses. for more details please see my thread in childminding. Many thanks.

Just to say that the Transplant Trek from Brighton to Worthing (13 miles) yesterday went well. We did it with dd1 & 2 and ds1. dd1 is desperately in need of a heart transplant. She couldn't walk it of course, but was happy to go along in her buggy.

Thanks to all who bump this thread, and prayers for all of those who are waiting, especially misdee's Peter.

xx

Bump.

Drove from Devon so that dd1 could do the Trek, had a liver transplant 2 years ago, she made it in five hours, it was a fabulous day.

lucyep · 11/07/2006 08:03

Sorry for the selfish plug, but for all who may be interested, dd1 was on our local ITV News last night.

At the moment you can see the ITV Meridian News Report by following this:

Go to www.itv.com
click on the tab which says news
click on regions
when the map comes up click on meridian (down south)
click on news and weather on the left hand side
click on merdian news - south -

Watch the credits at the beginning - you will see her coming up - and then she is the first article on the news last night.

My cousin's six year old died last year waiting for a tranplant. I am definitely on that list!!!

I can't be a bone marrow donor (back problems unfrtunatley) but if anyone can... my cousin died when we were both 5 of leaukaemia. Another cousin (same grandparents, different parents) was given two weeks to live from the same condition on the day of the funeral. Thanks to the marveloous work being done by Musgrove Leaukaemia Group at the time (and now as well most probably), he is now in his mid twenties and a father of four

(It was his child that died last year - how much grief can one family have? My poor Aunt)
