As some of you may know, this year we are moving out of London (for various reasons) and need to get our house on the market. DH has been (shall we say) less than helpful getting the house up together ready to sell. So after I got home from work yesterday and this morning, I put the numbers on the front door, repaired the outside light, replaced several bulbs, stained a wooden mirror frame and hung it, hung 3 pictures, and painted the cloakroom walls and ceiling. Just a handful of the things on my "to do" list, but its a start.

chicagomum · 14/03/2006 11:57

A broom up my b*m? Shock Not quite sure what to make of that comment TBH.

Re:the broom up your bum comment - it's a sarcastic british expression, for when you are feeling taken for granted - i.e. "You expect me to do all that? Why don't I just stick a broom up my bum and clean the floor as well while I'm at it?"

Furball · 14/03/2006 12:02

We've just sold and it's amazing the amount of DIY jobs that never seem to get done for all the time you live there. We had a roller blind still in the box behind a door in the kitchen that Dh never quite got round to doing. As soon as we were on the market he suddenly put the roller blind up in the kitchen and put a mirror up in the bathroom only took him 5 years LOL

Good on you for doing it yourself though.

chicagomum · 14/03/2006 12:08

Thanks tearsbeforebedtime. (I thought she was saying I was "up my own ar*e or something like that Blush .

Furball, I know what you mean - we have a blind for ds's room and a new curtain rail for dd's room, both still in the boxes. I am now a woman on a mission, have 2 sides of A4 with every single tiny job that needs to be done. It has made me determined that the house we move into will get all the jobs done (finances permitting) within the first few months so we can sit back and enjoy it rather than do them purely to sell the house and give others the benefit.

You are more chic than I and you are thinner. Envy

CHICagoMUM · 14/03/2006 19:54

You should see me today sherlock. Got sleeted on at the garden centre so hair all frizzy, have gloss paint every where and no nails left (they have all broken with my exertions in diy the last few days). But my house is beginning to look great (I actually may regret selling it to anyone if I carry on like this).

OP posts:
oops · 14/03/2006 20:15

oh, i am not upse, was worried for a moment that you thought i was being horrible, Smile

i think when they do the house doctor on the tv to sell places, often people want to stay after it has all been smartened up.

when we had our place on the market last year, we did lots of tidying and made it look really nice.
We decided not to sell as we couldn't find anywhere as good! so have tried very hard to keep it all up to date since then.

anyway, i hope you get a bit of a rest and a nice long drink this eve...
see you soon Smile
like the new name, it sounds more sassy...Smile
