Does anyone have a passenger airbag in their car?? How do you go on with newborn in car, when on your own? :)

Surely, you put the newborn in the back.

RTKangaMummy · 05/03/2006 19:40

What kind of car is it?

Have you asked at dealership?

Ring up customer services for breed of car

Put in back seat with mirrors

Hattie05 · 05/03/2006 19:41

Hi again laura, i have answered you on the other thread.

Some cars they can be switched off, others can be disconnected but expensive.

Babyseats can go in the back and i thought they were safer there anyway. By the time your little one is in next stage seat, they will have to go in the back, so imo it would be a waste to spend a lot of money on disconnecting the airbag.

GDG · 05/03/2006 19:43

It's much safer for children to travel in the back and so I would always do this where possible.

I know that Ford will not deactivate passenger airbags so you can put a child there - they don't recommend children in the front till age 12 so they won't do it (we thought at one point we wouldn't get 3 car seats in the back but we did in the end so no worries).

Why don't you put the baby in the back?

LauraH · 05/03/2006 19:44

Thought would have to go in the front so I cud see them, mirror's a good idea I'll do that :)

You can buy mirrors to put on the backseat that face yourinterior mirror so u can c them.or just pull over when they scream,i find they sleep in the car so you dont hav to worry.

laurah i know what yuo mean... i would have liked to have ds in the front with me... it is much easier.
but safety wise they're much, much better off in the back!

i saw a lady the other day with baby seat in the front of the car, handle not up and not secured by a seatr belt!!!! v. scary

when is your baby due?

LauraH · 05/03/2006 19:57

Must admit I'm very frightened about the birth even though its along way off, my pain threshold is NIL!!

LauraH · 05/03/2006 20:02

I'm going for a water birth (if I can), NO WAY having an epidural, bet ur thinking yeah yeah she'll be screaming for one hahahaha

OP posts:
starlover · 05/03/2006 20:02

haha yeah that's what i said! lol

15 hours later i was screaming for one!

LauraH · 05/03/2006 20:05

I've watched a few being given (epidurals) and it doesn't look pleasant and its looks very painful. My biggest fear is tearing!!!

OP posts:
starlover · 05/03/2006 20:07

yeah.. i do know what you mean! tbh (not meaning to scare you) i was in so much pain that i'd have let them cut my leg off if it would have stopped it! lol

that said... next time i would still try and get through it without one.

labour is so different for everyone so hope you have a nice one! one lady in hospital with me only had one paracetamol!!!

i too was terrified of tearing, even started a thread on here about it... i DID tear and it really wasn't anywhere near as bad as i thought it'd be.

LauraH · 05/03/2006 20:10

One paracetamol!!!! Did you actually know u had torn ?? The stiching must REALLY hurt?? Can I not have a bottle of vino once I start my contractions, that may numb the pain hahahaha

OP posts:
starlover · 05/03/2006 20:19

didn't know i'd torn as i had epidural. and didn't feel stitches either!
actually i was bleeding a lot and was whisked away to theatre to be mended "down there" but it was all ok

And once you're on the ward you're really aware that everyone has been through the same thing, all in the same boat.. the midwives see all this day in day out and so it is just fine.

I had no probs with stitches and it all healed up within a couple of weeks

LauraH · 05/03/2006 20:29

Thanks 4 advice starlover, logging off now, past my bedtime!!!
