DS is 1 in a few weeks and I want him to have some toys for his birthday that he will really want to play with!

What is (or was) your lo's favourite toys at this age?

Little People stuff always goes down well in our house

And aquadraw

yackertyyack · 07/02/2006 11:13

My little boy had the Fisher Price Drop and Roar Dinosaur for christmas and he loves it!! For his 1st birthday we have bought him a baby trampoline from ELC - which look good fun. There are also some good car seat toys on the jojomaman website - searing wheels, that sort of thing. Good luck!!!

oliveoil · 07/02/2006 11:13

agree on aquadraw, even if dd2 just sucks on the pens most of the time

Anything her big sister is playing with

Spidermama · 07/02/2006 11:15

My 12 month old loves recorders, whistles and piano type things. He's always raiding his brothers' and sisters' music cupboard.

He likes things with buttons to press which make noises too.

pesme · 07/02/2006 11:17

anything they can push. i.e. trolley with bricks one of those horrific v. tech things. actually don't buy the v tech thing as there are always millions of parents dying to off load theirs. we rushed to our friends with one only to find someone had beaten us to it.

Bozza · 07/02/2006 11:17

Agree with Olive on the older sibling thing. My 1yo DD is very keen on hotwheels cars and bouncy balls. She also loves her doll's pushchair - £5 from ELC and they do them in blue too. DS's birthday was in February and he got a sand and water play table for the garden which he loved all summer. When he was first toddling it was a great height for him. Another favourite for my two was the trike with parent handle. In fact I have bought them for both my nephew's first birthdays.

Bozza · 07/02/2006 11:18

Have to say most of the things I posted were not actually in use from their first birthday but from 14/15 months played with constantly.

mazzystar · 07/02/2006 11:18

DS loves his aquadraw, his wheelybug, and the £2 maracas from the early learning centre.

welshboris · 07/02/2006 11:20

DD 16 months loves the marcaras and £5 pram from ELC aswell!!

Best fiver I ever spent

hornbag · 07/02/2006 11:23

DS had a sandpit for his first birthday in the summer and loved it -played in it every day and no doubt will again as soon as the weather gets better!
He also loves his older sisters toys and "cast-offs" such as play kitchen, pots and pans etc, one of those £5 buggies Bozza mentioned, Polly Pockets (!) and books galore.

FrannyandZooey · 07/02/2006 11:30

For his 1st birthday we got a small paddling pool which at this time of year we filled with balls, and in the summer can go in the garden for ds to splash in. It was a godsend even this summer when he was 2 as it was soooo hot.

His own favourite was a push along / ride on train thing which he still plays with now.

canadianmum · 07/02/2006 11:41

Both my ds love the plastic ride-on fire engine from John lewis. It blows bubbles and makes lots of annoying music and they can put toys in the seat. They are now 3 and still LOVE it. They got it for their first birthday. It is the most used toy we have ever had.

HTH

leogaela · 07/02/2006 11:56

Wow, some great ideas.

the summer garden stuff and trike can wait and he wil be spoilt in the summer as we recently moved to a house with a garden and can't wait to fill it with toys, but the idea of a pool/sandpit with balls inside - I think he would like that.
And the aquadraw.

Yackerty - how old is your ds and does he still play with the drop and roar dinosaur?

He is useless at playing on his own, so I was thinking about getting him a cooker and pans, utensils so he can be in the kitchen cooking when I am. Anyone had any success with that?

Fisher Price peek-a-block musical giraffe

melrose · 07/02/2006 11:58

plasic teaset is most played with item in our house - £5!

mummytosteven · 07/02/2006 11:59

oh yes, ELC £6 plastic teaset is another favourite!

Hazellnut · 07/02/2006 12:14

DD just turned 1 after christmas so all her presents are 1+ sort of presents - current hit was a wooden activity cube

Also the toddler trike with parent handle - a definite hit. Wheely bug and m&p rocker limited enthusiasm at the moment but think they might come into there only in a few months. Peekablocks fish and musical instruments for some cheaper ideas too.

FOr her birthday, if relatives asked what she wanted, we asked for vouchers so we can buy outside stuff in the summer. HTH

DS3 is 18 months old and his favourite toys are his brothers' Brio wooden railway and engines.

hotmama · 07/02/2006 12:31

My dd was 1 last October.

Quatro lego - the biggest size.

Musical instruments from ELC.

Tea set from Toys R Us.

Stacking cups

Books - especially those with different texture.

Jigsaw thingys

Had a trike for Christmas - but is a bit young for it yet - but will be a hit in the summer. HTH

tassis · 07/02/2006 12:43

A lot of the things ds got for his first b'day came into their own around 15-18 months. Little People train set was a huge hit, wee slide, small wooden trike.

Cars are always great - fire engines, Bob vehicles and Pat's van are favourites.

He'll be 3 in April and still plays with all of the above.

Carameli · 07/02/2006 12:43

Aquadraw

Balamory Magnadoodle(fab toy, has little printing blocks in the shape of a house, bike etc with it.)

Vtech walker with activity lift off bit.
Leapfrog learning table(she loved this so much, dd is now 2 1/2 nearly and its only been put away just before Christmas.)

Baby tad, still really popular.

alphabet blocks(wooden ones from Elc)

would certainly recommend a crate of pots and pans and a couple of wooden spoons to have in the kitchen, dd loves to think she is cooking when I am.

Carameli · 07/02/2006 12:44

oh also forgot about Happyland, she started to get bits of it on her 1st b'day and has now built up a lovely village.

W0MBAT · 07/02/2006 12:48

I have to agree with the leapfrog learning table being brilliant. DD has had since she was 9 months and knows the music so well that she sings along to it.

Her absolute favourite toy is her maracas. She shakes them constantly and occasionally attacks our cat with them.

She's 1 soon so I think I'll get her an aquadraw.

welshboris · 07/02/2006 13:06

Same type of thing as Leappad table is one from Toys R Us, DD plays with it everyday
