I've avoided this thread as i am avoiding love full stop. I'm starting to get intrigued though as my sister has told me to go and see it. Do you think it would cheer you up when you've got a broken heart or make you worse?

Dahlia · 30/11/2003 22:21

Forestfly, it might make you worse as it is pretty soppy on the whole, and the storylines that don't have a happy ending might just depress you. Having said that, its a great film and quite light really, and if you went with a girlfriend and ate loads of sweets you would probably be ok.
Fisil - I'd have the same except I would swop Colin and Alan round.

Clarinet60 · 30/11/2003 22:32

Forestfly, I was in a fairly cynical frame of mind when I saw it, re love, but still enjoyed it and shed an embarassing tear.

I want to see it again, it was that good.

popsycal · 30/11/2003 22:42

ooooh is andrew lincoln in it!?!?
right - thats me off to see it then!!!

anais · 30/11/2003 22:44

I went to see it last Tuesday Binker, and I thought it was lovely I loved the little boy, thought he was fab.

aloha · 30/11/2003 22:49

Thanks for all the responses. We did go and dsd loved it - rather more than i did. She's seen loads of films with swearing (eg the whole Richard Curtis opus) and yet she never ever swears and is terribly shocked when we do. She didn't really understand the explicit sex stuff (though I was a bit horrified and wanted to cover her eyes) and understood that they were just acting and didn't really like it (!) She though Bill Nighy was hilarious.
I thought there was zero chemistry between Hugh and Martine and that Hugh looked as if he was just going through the motions. Totally improbably and if they did marry they'd last five mins. Also he was awfully underemployed for a Prime Minister. Really like Bill Nighy and thought Emma Thompson was rather wonderful - better than the script. Also liked Alan Rickman, but this character was so horrible it was impossible to warm to him. The stories with Colin the bloke who went to the US, and the porn couple should both have been cut IMO and more effort made to make the stories with Hugh, Colin and Alan more three dimensional.
Having said that, it did make me tearful at several moments and a bit soppy with dh! My crush is definitely on Liam Neeson. Very, very sexy and extremely well dressed. Cor!
Mind you, I think the bit with the lad running into the airport might well have ended with the boy shot dead and his dad in prison in the current climate. V unrealistic!

motherinferior · 01/12/2003 08:24

I may just have persuaded dp to go.

Fisil, I've warned you before. Keep your paws off. He's MINE!

motherinferior · 01/12/2003 08:25

Although if Aloha wants to swop him for Liam, I wouldn't say no either.

binker · 01/12/2003 12:29

Never really liked Andrew Lincoln before seeing him in this - but have changed my mind ! I'm hugely sentimental and weep at anything,so this made me teary. Do you think Keira Knightly looks at herself on screen and thinks God I'm gorgeous ? because she is.. though if I could choose I'd probably rather be the Aurelia character....

fisil · 01/12/2003 19:03

motherinferior, who is yours? You are welcome to any of the others (well, I'm happy to share) but Alan is with me to stay. Just ask him!
