Oh dear, I'm due to go see this next week with my mate and she already has a crush on Hugh Grant...

Hughsie · 22/11/2003 21:13

I fancy seeing it but nights off are feww and far between so dh is not really keen on spendng them at the pictures - not really sociable I suppose. May have to wait until satellite gets it!

Clarinet60 · 23/11/2003 22:11

It's really good, and yes, it will make Hugh Grant fans even worse. And Colin Firth fans.

CountessDracula · 23/11/2003 22:14

It has been panned soooooo comprehensively. Can it really be any good. One review said it is like eating a huge tin of quality street washed down with a bucket of honey!c

Dahlia · 23/11/2003 22:54

We've just got back from watching it - thought it was fab! The Colin Firth storyline was brilliant, and I loved all the shots of people at the airport. Yes its schmaltzy but who cares? Great cast, great moments, brill film.

wobblyknicks · 23/11/2003 23:05

Oh no, I already have a huge crush on Colin Firth. Took me ages to get over Pride & Prejudice, still have the odd daydream about him and have been banned from watching Bridget Jones' Diary by friends. But I really want to see Love Actually - am I destined to turn back into a Colin-crazed maniac again??

stressmachine · 23/11/2003 23:25

Went to see the film a couple of days ago and loved it, i thought there were too many stories going on to really get a feel for the characters but definatly worth going to see. Recommended for all the romantics out there!!!! Oh and Hugh is an added bonus of course

mieow · 23/11/2003 23:45

I am Gutted. I went to the pics yesterday with my sis to see this and it was sold out, so we went to see Intolatey crulty, and it was sooooooooo boring!!!! And we have used our free tickets now

Clarinet60 · 24/11/2003 14:38

CD, I've read some of the critics and the stuff they say is pretty mental. One criticised it for making London look too pretty. As my friend said, they didn't move the buildings around, did they? OK, so good lighting was used, but it's a feel-good film that makes you LOL in many places and it's just very enjoyable. The beginning is a bit corny but once you get into it, it's good. The short story format was a nice change, I found.

Dahlia · 24/11/2003 14:51

wobblyknicks, he is just unbelievably gorgeous in it - and a lovely character - the man can do no wrong as far as I am concerned. I loved the porno stand-ins, thought they were hysterical.

Norma · 24/11/2003 14:51

Saw it yesterday. Really good way to spend a few quid. Yes, Wobbly .... I've got a bit of libido back!!
Lightweight, feel good, silly but not so silly that you can't suspend your imagination and just giggle and enjoy.
Passed the fidget test with flying colours.
Enjoy it.

wobblyknicks · 25/11/2003 00:07

dahlia and norma - thanks! I know I'm going to waste the years of 'therapy' I've had and be in love with Colin Firth again but I have to see the film!! He is so gorgeous though!!!

Neetsmassi · 25/11/2003 11:38

Oh dear - already have huge crushes on both Colin Firth and Hugh Grant due to Bridget Jones' Diary - what will I be like?

Mooma · 26/11/2003 17:06

Also thought the storyline with Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson was moving and not a bit schmaltzy. Really enjoyed it.

aloha · 30/11/2003 09:43

How 'rude' is it? My 12 year old stepdaughter wants to see and and we're thinking of smuggling her in (she's seen all the other Richard Curtis movies - 4 Weddings, Notting Hill etc and we were happy with those) is Love, Actually different in tone at all?

doormat · 30/11/2003 09:48

aloha there is only one of the stories of the couplke that is rude. They are filming and re-enact sex scenes all the time.

Bill Nighy (the old pop star) was hilarious.
Agree with the Alan rickman and Emma Thompson storyline was really moving.
I found the liam neeson and his lad storyline was OTT.
Colin Firth was lovely, he reminds me of Laurence Olivier.

doormat · 30/11/2003 09:51

BTW thought it was a great feel good film.
Not too romantic but Bill Nighy made it for me.

aloha · 30/11/2003 09:52

Doormat, thanks for replying. What do you reckon about a 12year old seeing it? As I said, she's seen sex scenes before - eg in Bridget Jones' Diary (Hugh and Renee) and was completely happy with it and we were Ok with it too. However, if it's really explicit I'm not so sure. I'd like to see it though and my mum is babysitting ds!

Mummysurfer · 30/11/2003 10:53

ooops

doormat · 30/11/2003 10:57

aloha the scenes simulate oral sex and from behind and on top.It is quite mechanical as they are both actors. I think it would be ok for a 12 yr old who has seen BJ diary.
Go and see it and enjoy and when you do tell us what you think about the old pop singer.

Davros · 30/11/2003 11:27

I think it would be fine for your 12 year old, no "worse" than BJ Diary, probably less sex

Dahlia · 30/11/2003 12:56

Sorry to sound like a prude but I wouldn't take a 12 year old to see it! It has a 15 certificate for good reasons - namely the graphic simulated sex scenes, but there is also alot of swearing in it - really unsuitable in my opinion.

Davros · 30/11/2003 16:39

Good point, I hadn't thought about the swearing.
BTW, Bill Nighy was in the band in that British Spoof rock band film, I don't think it was Spinal Tap, that was American wasn't it? Anyway, whichever was the British one, he was in the band so he was really repeating a lot of that p/f imho. I didn't think his p/f was great as it was too ridiculous but entertaining nonetheless.

binker · 30/11/2003 18:44

went to see it last Tuesday and loved it - yes it is sentimental and whatnot but who cares - it's a great start to the festive season, everyone looks lovely (esp.Colin Firth - that was my favourite storyline)and London looks fab.
Go see !

fisil · 30/11/2003 19:02

Loved it. Like the way it acknowledged that life is not a straightforwards single storyline like it is in most films, but that there is a lot more to our lives. So while Emma Thompson's marriage fell apart, other relationships (with her children and brother and friend Liam Nilson) were still strong.

Only problem, I have spent a long time since the film trying to work out who and in which order.

I reckon I'll go for Andrew Lincoln first, young and good looking, but not long term.
Then I'd go for Colin Firth, cos he's good, but not that good.
Next up would be Hugh Grant, the ultimate in sexiness.
Then I would settle down with Alan Rickman for ever.
