If you have sex just after your period can you still get pregnant?

Title says it all really.

Ive been feeling a bit broody lately, on and off. I feel alot less broody when the kids are awake!

Anyhow,

I decided in my infinate wisdom to tell dh that its ok to have unprotected say on the last day and day after of your period. He didnt even question it, just thought yay! so we did...

I dont know what came over me! I am sure I have read somewhere that you cant get pregnant but now im not so sure.

Can you tell im broody and taking silly risks??? Im not worried about getting pregnant, I just wanted to know if its possible as I am thinking of using the rythum contraception as I cant take the pill and dh doesnt like condoms and that way we are still using a form of protection (although its not the most affective in the world!) so dh would still be happy although deep down he would know the risk. I think he would like a baby but wont admit it and this way he would be able to blame me!

You can get pregnant any time of the month.

WideWebWitch · 22/01/2006 13:57

yes

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 22/01/2006 13:57

I thought that because a period is getting rid of the lining of the womb that you cant get pregnant until you ovulate 14 days after? Im totally wrong arnt i??

yes

All I know is a friend of mine, who has always had very short periods (3-4 days) had unprotected sex 3 days after her bleeding had stopped and conceived, much to her surprise! Midwife said it is possible for women to ovulate more than once during their cycle.

Answer therefore I think is unlikely, but possible.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 22/01/2006 14:00

I feel naughty

But in the 6 years we have been together i have told dh we can never have unprotcted sex unless we are trying for a baby... so when i suddenly turn round and say "oh, you know what, we can do it..." He must have some idea! esspecially as I told him last night that I was broody!

Xmas Day 2002 my period had just finished 3 days ago on 22 Dec. We therefore thought we'd be "okay" and took no other precautions.

I now have a 2 year old DD born beginning of October.

Living proof !

motherinferior · 22/01/2006 14:57

Supposedly no...but in practice yes. Speaking as someone who was always smugly convinced that should she wish to she could Trust Her Body's Rhythms, and now has a five year old

WideWebWitch · 22/01/2006 15:04

The thing is you don't know for sure when you ovulate so there is the possibility of getting pregnant. Or, as someone said, you can ovulate more than once. Anyway, yes, you def can get pregnant, I think that's unanimous!

I think ds was conceived just after my period. I remember when I went for my dating scan I was a week further on than I thought I would be, which put date of conception back to when my period finished.

mumeeee · 22/01/2006 17:53

expatinscotland · 22/01/2006 17:54
