dh has wanted to keep tropical fish for years and we went and bought a lovely fish-tank and stand today.

He spent ages setting it up with the gravel, rocks etc and then started to put the water in. After he's filled it about a 1/4 full, it started to piss all over the living room floor. Becu]

The shop were closed by this time andwe are now really worried as it came with an internal filter fitter which dh didn't want so took it out before he filled it. (This wouldn't have caused the leak. I'm worried that the shop will refuse to replace it asthe goods are not as sold (they knew we were taking the internal filter out though).

I'm also totally pissed off that I have spent the evening cleaning the bloddy carpet as well!

can you claim on the insurence for the carpet?

i had to return a tanl as it was leaking. what make/size did u get?

sparklymieow · 06/12/2005 22:31

I would put the filter back in and then just take it back.

LilacBump · 06/12/2005 22:31

is it a juwel tank?

galaxy · 06/12/2005 22:32

Yes it's a Juwel.

mine was jewul180 with wood effect stand. it was grrrrrr as it took over a week for a new tank to come in.

sparklymieow · 06/12/2005 22:32

My juwel tank leaked too.

misdee · 06/12/2005 22:32

just take it back.

LilacBump · 06/12/2005 22:33

juwel will replace it if the shop doesn't. lady who sold us our tank and stand said they are really good for this.

galaxy · 06/12/2005 22:34

OMG Misdee - Ours is Juwul 180 with beech effect stand. We could have got it £50 cheaper than we paid from the local garden centre but that would have taken a week to come so we paid more to get it today.

can i ask why you were taking out the internal filter? [confused?]

misdee · 06/12/2005 22:35

its a lovely tank. mine is full of algae atm, it needs moving as its getting too much light.

sparklymieow · 06/12/2005 22:35

I was wondering that too? re filter..

galaxy · 06/12/2005 22:35

dh is going to phone the shop 1st thing tomorrow. Totally pissed off that it's taken all afternoon to set it up and then is pisses all over the sodding carpet!

And it's hassle to get it down from the middle floor to the ground floor, back into the car and ten miles to the shop.

dh has always used an external filter - bought an eheim external one. dh is asking - He's never heerd of Juwel before today - are they no good then?

i had to empty mine and traspe it back to the shop, was very annoyed. i bought it as the old tank had sprung a leak, and the fish were getting ill in the other spare tank. i ended up losing a lot of fish that week.

misdee · 06/12/2005 22:38

mieows juwel tank was 2nd hand and old thats why hers leaked lol.

apparently they never had one spring a leak before, am wondering if its a dodgey batch now. mine was on a corner seal about 2inches up.

galaxy · 06/12/2005 22:38

hmm.......do you ever wish you'd put your foot down and told your sh to wait a week to save the money in the 1st place

OP posts:
galaxy · 06/12/2005 22:39

That'll be dh not sh

I alway use an internal filter and its keeps the water clear. My Juwel tank was a few years old when it started to leak.

misdee · 06/12/2005 22:40

i have 2 filters in mine lol. paranoid? moi?

galaxy · 06/12/2005 22:40

Our leak was on the bottom about two inches in from the right - luckily it was on the front so we noticed it relatively early

OP posts:
sparklymieow · 06/12/2005 22:40

I have 2 too lol!!

misdee · 06/12/2005 22:40

mine was at the back, i have laminate floor and heard a dripping noise.

PrincessPlumPuddingHead · 06/12/2005 22:44

take it back. a fish tank that leaks water is not fit for purpose and they have to give you a full refund or replacemtn (your choice not theirs).

Fact that you took internal filter off is irrelevant if the goods are otherwise faulty

galaxy · 06/12/2005 22:47

Thanks PPH - can I quote you in a professional context
