dh has wanted to keep tropical fish for years and we went and bought a lovely fish-tank and stand today.

He spent ages setting it up with the gravel, rocks etc and then started to put the water in. After he's filled it about a 1/4 full, it started to piss all over the living room floor. Becu]

The shop were closed by this time andwe are now really worried as it came with an internal filter fitter which dh didn't want so took it out before he filled it. (This wouldn't have caused the leak. I'm worried that the shop will refuse to replace it asthe goods are not as sold (they knew we were taking the internal filter out though).

I'm also totally pissed off that I have spent the evening cleaning the bloddy carpet as well!

no!

but if they are being difficult you could chuck in the words "fit for purpose" and "Sale of Goods Act" at random intervals and that should sort things out for you. Oh and if things are really bad "trading standards" also works a treat

Thanks pph. Tbh, I don't think the shop will be deliberately difficult - they are an independent retailer with a very good reputation locally. They may however want to get clarification from the wholesaler that they will agree to replace and we had promised dd we would have the fish in before Christmas. She was crying when we were scoping all the gravel out and emptying out the water bless her.

how did you get on with returning it?

Kelly1978 · 07/12/2005 12:08

oh no. I have a jewel and we've not had any problems with it at all. They are plastic rather than glass, so that might be partly why. Those internal filters are actually rather good. WE were going to replace with an external but didn't bother in the end. Dps family also keep fish and have gotten through three external filters.

so what happened?

galaxy · 09/12/2005 22:00

Phoned the shop, who got one in immediately for us and swapped it without any problems. They even filled it with water before we arrived to pick it up to ensure there was no problem.
