Overpopulation

Dear mums or mums to be,

If you are having doubts over having a child -
please consider the fact that in a few months time we will
have passed the 7 billion (!!!) marker.

Planet earth is being choked by our careless reproduction.

If you must have children, why not skip the horrible pregnancy thing,

and put that energy into adopting a child. At least in our developed, equal societies women can actually choose to not breed.

A while ago i'd become pregnant by accident for about a month and got an abortion straight away. ( i dont want my own children)
Pregnancy was in my humble opinion an absolute nightmare, i can not fathom how anyone would want to go through nine months of feeling like a puke bucket if there are millions of children up for adoption.

You could give those children a real chance instead of selfishly deciding for a baby, just so it can look like you.

Here's the article in the guardian about overpopulation.

www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2011/jul/18/population-7-billion-planet

Thanks for your attention.

Also it's not a question of "just adopting". Adoption is extremely difficult.

DuelingFanjo · 19/07/2011 10:31

I agree, I reported it soon after it was posted yet it's still here in the worst possible place :(

Lollyheart · 19/07/2011 10:33

Thank god your arnt going to have children op!!!

Now fuck off back under your bridge!!!!

Fifis25StottieCakes · 19/07/2011 10:35

Jeasus Christ

Have a Biscuit another Biscuit and then another Biscuit

Viagrafalls · 19/07/2011 10:38

Unbelievably insensitive, I am 8 months pregnant and of course I worry about the planet and overpopulation but people like you do absolutely NOTHING for this cause.
Get a life.

wigglesrock · 19/07/2011 10:39

OP You're a dick, an insensitive, attention seeking one at that. I know 3 couples going through the adoption process, its not like picking one up with your Tesco shop!!

SophieRMumsnet · 19/07/2011 10:47

We are going to move this to 'Other Subjects' now

farfallarocks · 19/07/2011 10:54

I think the whole thing should be deleted

fuckmepinkandcallmerosie · 19/07/2011 11:05

good. If you move it then it can be discussed. Though it's absolutely clear from the OP that the post was started purely to be vitrioloc and rude and to stir. You don't use phrases like the following if you are expecting to have a reasonable debate.

"why not skip the horrible pregnancy thing"
"women can actually choose to not breed."
"i can not fathom how anyone would want to go through nine months of feeling like a puke bucket"
"instead of selfishly deciding for a baby, just so it can look like you".

MissTinaTeaspoon · 19/07/2011 11:15

beertricks you forgot that we only want children so we've got someone that looks like us...no other reason at all!

GypsyMoth · 19/07/2011 11:15

First post as well. Interesting

DialsMavis · 19/07/2011 11:16

Ha ha you stupid little child! I think it is safe to say most of us here are aware of the huge issues surrounding over population and the finite amount of resources available to sustain the huge population. Do you honestly think you are explaining a new concept to a load of dim baby making machines? Are you aware how difficult it is to adopt? it is not like just going to choose a fucking puppy

This is the 2nd time i have read breed on a thread. what a horrible term

MissTinaTeaspoon · 19/07/2011 11:18

beertricks you'd better start trying to breed another one then Wink

Peachy · 19/07/2011 11:20

Not just anyone can adopt and the reasons can be arbitrary, meet your dp too late- stuffed. Lots of things.

Dopting the most vulnerable kids from abraod is even harder: friend has two Chinese girls, I admire her but she had massive financial resources she could tap into.

personally I would sign a contract to voluntarily end my life at 75 (I;ve already told people I don't want treatments for severe diseases above that, beyond palliative care) ratehr than not have children. That option is rarely discussed though.

My family typially push 100 so that's a real choice I can make. I'd rather have ashorter full life- and for me that ahs emant my own kids.

DuelingFanjo · 19/07/2011 11:24

also - the OP is addressed to mums to be! Does the OP expect those women who are already pregnant to abort their babies because of over population. Twat.

fotheringhay · 19/07/2011 11:28

The OP did say "If you are having doubts over having a child..."

Overpopulation is a serious issue, but very difficult to discuss as it's such a sensitive area.

The Guardian comments are full of this sort of stuff, and mumsnet is at the other extreme (not really covering it at all).

There is of course no excuse for rudeness.

MissTinaTeaspoon · 19/07/2011 11:41

fothering I doubt many people on conception have too many reservations though. The thread was clearly a troll thread, not an intelligent debate that should have been started elsewhere.

fotheringhay · 19/07/2011 11:45

Yes I think you're right. I hope it hasn't genuinely upset anyone.
