Again, I'm asking for help. Do any of you have/or have had in the past, a romantic obsession or crush. I'm not talking about stalking or anything really crazy, just a passion for somebody - maybe somebody you know or a celebrity who you became obsessed with. Maybe the obsession had an impact on your real life relationship - ie your partner has got fed up with your going on about, say Robbie Williams or Brad Pitt. Just wondering what you got out of it and would you give it up for your man. I know someone who had a long-term obsession with David Essex. His face was on all the tea-towels, travelled miles to see him, joined the fan club etc, and her family were very tolerant!

i don't know why but there seems to be something about the blokes on balamory that makes them quite mysterious and unbelievable.

sassy · 28/08/2003 09:22

LOVE Krishnan Guru-Murphy ( Asian guy on Channel 4 news). Gorgeous, and intelligent. What more could a girl want from a long-distance crush!

Finbar · 28/08/2003 09:57

motherinferior - interested to hear about the kd lang thing---I literally bumped in to her whilst I was working up in London ...she was really charming and I find her fascinating. Not sure what this all means!

Bobsmum · 28/08/2003 10:05

I've met Spencer from Balamory, years ago. He was a youthworker in Scottish secondary schools for ages.

Not as cute as PC Plum though - he reminds me of Buster Keaton. Definitely fancied him - bit impossible to follow him round though.

marthamoo · 28/08/2003 10:53

From the age of seven, when I saw Star Wars I had a major crush on Harrison Ford. I have a diary I wrote when I was about 11 - tear stained pages - and things like "no-one understands..I love him so much...I am going to marry him one day..no-one believes it but I will make it happen." I watched his films over and over..remember floating home from the cinema after seeing "Witness" on a complete high (and I was about 15 by then so it was quite long-lived).

Eventually grew out of it and started getting crushes on real people. Took me ten years to get over my first serious boyfriend - thought about him every single day, even after I was shacked up with DH-to-be. He's on Friendsreunited too but that's a can of worms I have no intention of opening!

Like motherinferior, until having children, I seemed to flit from one crush to another (some real eg., blokes at work and a very eclectic mix of celebs - from Boris Becker to Bob Geldof). Now I'm too tired and it's too much effort to live in fantasy land! Though Spike and Angel from BTVS do pass fleetingly through my thoughts from time to time....

Jenie · 28/08/2003 11:06

Did have a slight crush on Spike from BTVS but saw a young lad (who lives near me) dressed just like him, same hair and coat etc and the crush just fizzled out there and then. Still see the youg lad and he still dresses like Spike so there's no chance of re-kindling that crush.

Oooo... Spike and Angel! Yes please!

oliveoil · 28/08/2003 11:50

Not a crush exactly but I saw Roy Keane on TV last night whilst being bored to death by the footy, and he is nice. Those eyes. Hmmmmmmmmmm

DaddyCool · 28/08/2003 13:07

There is something about that trinny from 'what not to wear'. I'm a Dad by the way!

Mingles · 28/08/2003 13:16

Wow! And I thought I as the only one this happened to. I'm so glad I'm not alone!! My latest crush was one of the characters in Death in Holy Orders, Raphael thingy, apparantly he used to be in Neighbours, I fancied him in that too! He looks vaguely like Leo DiCaprio, who I also had a crush on when Titanic came out... And so it goes on..

Manfwood · 28/08/2003 13:48

Well it just shows how different we all are - cant believe some of you have a crush on PC Plum (and Archie) - especially with all the make-up on!

Used to have a real thing about Harrison Ford as well - especially after Witness but gone off him now (getting a bit old) especially as he is with that skinny Calista Flockhart.

Had a dream about snogging Jack Davenport (played nasty Miles in 'This Life' last night but tend not to have crushes on real people although there is one quite cute bloke at work but really he is just the office eye candy!

mum28 · 28/08/2003 14:11

leave archie alone!.also i like james redmond (used to live in a boat on hollyoaks)

motherinferior · 28/08/2003 18:50

You bumped into kd lang, Finbar? Tell all! She is utterly compelling, isn't she...

Can't imagine fancying anyone on Balamory; the Scottish bloke on Tikkabilla is quite cute but not quite crush-worthy.

fisil · 28/08/2003 19:05

Saw a trailer for a film coming out in November called Love Actually. It seems to have in it anyone I have ever had a crush on, in order (of crushes) ... Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman, Colin Firth, I think there was someone else too, but I can't recall. Oh, if only Robert Bathhouse (sp?) was in it too (David from Cold Feet), then I would be in total heaven! Crushes are great.

princesspeahead · 28/08/2003 19:55

fisil.... rowan atkinson? how can you type him in the same sentence as colin firth et al? are you mad, woman??!!!!

fisil · 29/08/2003 18:43

Rowan was the biggest of the lot! I was in love. It was Blackadder III that I was really in love with. We hit a slightly rocky patch over Blackadder goes forth, and then split up for good over Mr Bean and everything he has done since. Saw him in the flesh earlier this year and it all came flooding back.

I think that Andrew Lincoln is in that film too. Now there's someone I wouldn't chuck out of bed for making crumbs!

motherinferior · 29/08/2003 19:48

I forgot to mention that I have - in the course of work - met and indeed shared a cab with Mr Essex. He is charm personified, utterly delightful, I have to say.

I do quite like Robert Bathurst, come to think of it. And managed to develop disturbing crush on Martin Clunes during that series with him playing a funeral director.

Oh, and I check friendsreunited regularly to see if the bloke who broke my heart when I was 15 is on it.

God I'm a saddo, or possibly just crazed.

I have had crushes all my life, parents say i liked cliff richard when i was 3 but fortunately i don't remember. David Bowie since i was 14 & forever.(sigh)
But worst is that when i was pregnant I dreampt about a wrestler who an ex liked & have been fantasising about him every day & night since, only 3.5 yrs or so, he's quite ugly & thick but the only reason i got a computer was cos i knew he had a website & i was genuinely going to write to him & he would subsequently fall madly in love with me & take me away from everything. hasn't happened yet but i'm on his mailing list. sort of not practical to emigrate at the mo, might wait till dd leaves home.

previous marriage not helped by major crush on boss, 31 yrs older. oh i could go on but my lack of capital letters is annoying me.
currently have a gorgeous art teacher but not going to do anything about it (unless i lose a stone or so...)

Tortington · 30/08/2003 01:28

i swear justin timberlake makes me melt like a middle aged old bag can only do in that pathetic i wish i was slimmer way - with a sigh. i hate his money and his spinned, manufactured career. i hate what it all stands for but my word i feel shame at being so pathetically pathetic!

Angeliz · 30/08/2003 01:38

fisil my friend went for lunch with Rowan a few years ago and said he was VERY boring,,,,,,,,,,though as it's all in the mind i guess that doesn't matter! My latest is"Smithy" from "The Bill".....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Angeliz · 30/08/2003 01:41

also love Aidan Quinn.....

Tillysmummy · 30/08/2003 07:33

For me I have always had a huge thing for George Michael, such a shame he's gay. Also Tom Cruise since Top Gun !!! (I was 15).
Nowadays, Robbie Williams definitely !
DH just gets a bit worried when I dream about them !

Finbar · 30/08/2003 07:36

Angeliz - Aidan Quinn - absolutley agree - I always watch out for anything he's in!
