If someone is idenfified as a troll should we all agree on a unified course of action like ignoring them and not arguing the toss?

wheres the fun in that

stitch · 25/08/2005 12:46

wouldnt work, as i think mnetters enjoy it too much

MascaraOHara · 25/08/2005 12:46

how do you know if they're a troll until you've spoken to them a bit though?

I think you would end up isolating a lot of new posters and MN would ultimately die.

moozoboozo · 25/08/2005 12:49

I love troll baiting, but I am usually too late

EnidfromtheVILLAGE · 25/08/2005 12:49

god no

trolls are usually obvious adn then we can have fun with them

the only ones that annoy me are the really mad ones like judge flounce (?) pretending they had a baby that died

then you realise there are really some sickos out there

Blu · 25/08/2005 12:51

Enid, what about the one the other week?
No one but you and I thought it was a troll...

EnidfromtheVILLAGE · 25/08/2005 12:52

it so was

I think the same one who did the prostitute one the other day

MascaraOHara · 25/08/2005 12:53

Oh which one? did I miss that?

I also love troll bating, it's so much fun.. they don't even 'get' that you're playing with them as much as they are with you.. mutual gratification.

SleepySuzy · 25/08/2005 12:54

I read the prostitute thread - but what exactly is a troll???

Ameriscot2005 · 25/08/2005 12:54

The key is not to take trolls too seriously. It can be fun to "rise" to their bait sometimes. Some of the classic, funny, threads are troll-initiated.

EnidfromtheVILLAGE · 25/08/2005 12:55

baiting lavs dp (?) was my finest hour

SS, a troll is someone who comes on her and basically pretends to be someone else. They are usually identifiable by the fact that one of their first posts is about something like "I want to go back on the game" which you wouldnt really do on a forum yu aren't familiar with unless you are a nutbar

monkeytrousers · 25/08/2005 12:57

I'm just bored with it. It seems to be happening alot lately. Is it the school holidays?

EnidfromtheVILLAGE · 25/08/2005 12:57

or

How long is your pubic hair?

one handed typing there deffo

moozoboozo · 25/08/2005 12:58

Yes, I think Asalam must have gone a bit crazy waiting for his/her/their GCSE results

WigWamBam · 25/08/2005 12:59

But it can be so much fun to actually beat the troll at his/her own game ... ignoring them might not give them what they want, but tearing them to pieces might just teach them a lesson.

moozoboozo · 25/08/2005 12:59

Yup, I'm with WWB

Blu · 25/08/2005 13:00

WWB - expereince suggests otherwise, though! The recent over-active bridge dweller has thrived on being ripped to peices. And since they are being a 'persona' it doesn't touch them v deeply, anyway.

BadgerBadger · 25/08/2005 13:05

I think we ought to keep the most recent one as a pet.
Entertaining little creature that it is

Some Troll baiting really is fun, OTOH, it is a shame when they cause consternation for or between members.

There are different types of troll, JF types, who are out to seriously mislead and hurt other posters, or so-ridiculous-they're-funny ones ....... such as the proposed pet!

moozoboozo · 25/08/2005 13:05

But look at Asalam yesterday, when he/she/it/they were outed, they made themselves look foolish

SleepySuzy · 25/08/2005 13:06

Thanks, moozoboozo - and that was the thread I read all right!

Tortington · 25/08/2005 13:12

god i hope not or i wouldnt be able to troll around
