Tea room 16 welcome to Shangri-la

UniS · 15/06/2010 19:33

Shangri-la = a hidden valley with beautiful views and crystal streams of course, and some inter-far eastern type of chalet things set around a Serene Courtyard with ever-blooming Japanese cherry trees, lots of refreshing fragrant teas, silk cushions, tinkling tiny waterfalls and bonsai trees, Gardens of Tranquillity etc.

Home to teh 16th Tea room, a haven for those with one or more or less children who like cake, tea, talking nonsense and oggling Mellors ( our handyman/ butler). If its your first vist, pull up a cushion .Mind out for the guinea pigs and other pets and do take care not to squash the teeny tiny naked mowhawk babies ( nmbs
, no longer naked and now toilet trained you will glad to hear)as they go about their duties helping Mellors.

Confused... come on, jump in and have a hot chocolate.

now that I don;t think got finalied.
Ladies ( and truckers called dave) oo you think you can stretch to £10? or is £6.39 more achievable and funnier.

Scout19075 · 14/07/2010 09:16

I could stretch to £10, but admit £6.39 is very funny. (Assuming this does not include the postage costs?)

amberlight · 14/07/2010 10:15

£6.39 sounds ideal! And amusing to attempt!

After yesterday's brain-deadness from being up all right with silly house alarm ringing and engineer visit, I think I'm feeling a bit more human.

CMOTdibbler · 14/07/2010 10:31

Can I add myself to the parcel list ?

Scout - anything I can send you from the US ? I depart tomorrow.

Talking of which, I must pack. And iron. Ick.

AandO · 14/07/2010 14:15

Oh, were you not on my the list I wrote CMOT? Sorry !

So do Tea and I convert £6.39 into euro or try to stick to €6.39? Dublin is pretty expensive. This could be pretty tough!

Good idea about waiting until Sept though. I have just put my house up for rent on the internet and hopefully will be out soon. So it is not ideal for me to do it at the moment either.

Scout19075 · 14/07/2010 17:17

To ask the very obvious -- how do we get addies to each other?

CMOT Oh you are a star! If you could and only if you have room and please don't go through any trouble or I will feel terribly guilty! -- a package of Reese's would be fan-tabulous. I've recently run out of the big bag I brought from home that Mom bought me and have been feeling a bit about my lack of (fake) peanut butter and chocolate. How shall I get money to you? Obviously I'm a bit late to get you some USD.... Where in the US are you going?

We don't have our Thanksgiving tickets yet, but have been reassured we are going. DH LOVES all of the Thanksgiving food (fortunately my family isn't into (American) football so he's spared that) and REALLY loves the Black Friday shopping. It's the one day a year I can get him up before 7 a.m. on a non-work day. Me, I just love being home with people who sound like me! LOL

BabyScout is 8.5 months today -- who said time could go so quickly?!

mistlethrush · 14/07/2010 17:30

I've got UniS's address - and she has mine!

I also have an email address for Amber - and I think I've got one for Mary too....

Given UniS recently gave people a way of contacting her.... that should take care of quite a few of us.

Otherwise we'll just have to set up a facebook group and say Pah! to annonimity. Don't see why it should affect how we treat each other and act in the tearoom!

UniS · 14/07/2010 18:48

I guess I could act as a clearing house of addresses if people were willing to contact me by e-mail. I promise I will delete the relevant e-mails after parcel season is over.
its not so different to holding club members contact details.

£6.39 it is then. convert to euros or use euro 6.39 as you prefer for those in the eurozone.

Could we not just follow Oxeye's intrepid lead and set up hotmail accounts? Then we can make two-way contact with our parcelees.

Is it Bolly o'clock yet?

UniS · 14/07/2010 19:55

now that is probadly a better idea. I'll see if my username is avalible.

OP posts:
Scout19075 · 14/07/2010 19:56

I'm game for either a hotmail account or FB. My existing hotmail account is very similar to my screen name here, so might just tell you how to change it to save me doing a new one.

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 14/07/2010 20:04

Ah, Scout and UniS! The very people I was hoping to pester see. Could I have (pretty please) an idiot-proof recipe for Smores? And, Scout, you mentioned edible fires. What? How? I think Matchmakers might have been involved.

No takers for the Bolly?

Scout19075 · 14/07/2010 20:07

S'mores!!! YUMMY!

British s'mores (I'm assuming)?

And edible fires -- I have a sheet but anything can be substituted. I'll copy & paste it here (unless you'd prefer an email?).

Scout19075 · 14/07/2010 20:13

S'mores Ingredients (British):
Digestive Biscuits
Milk Chocolate
Marshmallows

Preparation:
Build fire
Toast marshmallows
Layer ingredients as: Digestive, chocolate bit (square or rectangle, depending on type of chocolate used), marshmallow, digestive

I find it's best to put the chocolate on the digestive and hold in one hand with the second digestive in the other and have the person who toasted the marshmallow put it on top of the chocolate and use the top digestive to help pull off the marshmallow.

Does that make sense?

You can cheat and use a chocolate digestive and skip the bit of chocolate, but it's not as much fun.

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 14/07/2010 20:13

Thank you, Scout. You mean there are national/regional variants?

My hotmail address is [First two parts of my user name] @ hotmail co uk.

Scout19075 · 14/07/2010 20:23

Well, a true S'more is: Graham Crackers, Hershey Chocolate, Marshmallow. The only way you can get grahams and Hershey is through an American shop and it's ridiculously expensive. So when I do my "visiting Girl Scout" bit with units I do digestives/milk chocolate/marshmallows. For my Guide camp I always import the real stuff -- either I bring it back from a trip or Mom sends them to me in time for camp.

CMOTdibbler · 14/07/2010 20:39

I shall import you Reeses and graham crackers and Hersheys Scout. I'm going to be in Philly, mainly at the convention centre, but a short pop into TJU hospital too. Plenty of room in the case - I have an expanding suitcase, specially for shopping purposes. And I need to export tea and bourbon biscuits to my boss

Smallbunch - do you need american supplies too ?

When my parents got their first microwave, the first thing we made was S'mores in it - the marshmallow puffs up in a most satisfactory manner

Barberofseville · 14/07/2010 20:44

I dont understand anything on this thread....

Scout19075 · 14/07/2010 20:45

CMOT -- SOOOOO JEALOUS!!! That's home!!!! (Can BabyScout and I hide in your expanding suitcase?!) Don't worry about the grahams and Hersheys, but that thank you! I brought LOADS back in May and they're all bagged up, ready for Guide camp. Have a cheesesteak for me, will you?

Scout19075 · 14/07/2010 20:46
ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 14/07/2010 20:47

That's very kind, Cmot, but I'll be making Smores in a couple of days so will manage with supplies from the Co-op!

Scout19075 · 14/07/2010 20:50

Oh, Small, can I make a recommendation regarding chocolate? Get flat chocolate, not big bulgy chocolate like Cadbury's Dairy Milk. Because digestives are big (bulgy) if you have fat chocolate like Dairy Milk it makes them unwieldy. Also, the fat chocolate makes it a bit sickly sweet.

That's one nice thing about US ones -- grahams and Hershey are flat, so makes a tidy sandwich.

Scout19075 · 14/07/2010 20:51

Small -- I'll join you in the drink.

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 14/07/2010 20:56

Thanks for all the handy Smores hints!

Scout19075 · 14/07/2010 20:59

No problem!

I'll email you the edible fire stuff asap -- I need to get on one of the other computers where the file is saved, but it's in the room that BabyScout now sleeps in. Will tomorrow be okay?
