Tea Room the Fifteenth - The Viking Hall

Here we are in the 15th instalment of the Tea Room for the One Child Family board. All are welcome, whether parents of a single splendid offspring or any other number.
We are this time in a Viking Long Hall tearoom, complete with optional helmets, roaring log fires (in case of chilly spring evenings), rugs aplenty, and all the usual mod cons of life as well.
Our Viking tea room contains Mellors the gardener/handyperson with a talent for relaxing massage (amongst a variety of other characters including Bishops, camels, bison, horses, guinea pigs, dogs, etc etc for reasons that would take too long to explain but you're welcome to read the other Tea Room threads and prepare to have your mind thoroughly boggled). Plenty of tea/coffee/cake/virtual bolly always on offer.
Join us, relax, chat, enjoy.

Dr pronounces that there is nothing seriously wrong with DHs eyes, but his corneas are still a bit inflamed, so steroid and other drops for a couple of months to calm it down. Am v relieved.

Twiglet suprise anyone ?

RacingSnake · 13/05/2010 21:43

Glad Gunslinging incident has been cut down to size!

Oxeye, 'truc' rhymes with 'hook' (approximately).

Amber, M.Snake is already concerned that Wriggle will do badly in her French finals due to my sloppy French vocabulary. Seriously!

Very envious of sleep in the day!!!

DH is sitting 3 ft away from me singing "Old McDonald had a farm"... boy went to bed hours ago. Now switched to "summertime", choir practise was last night so now he has new songs to learn... ho hum

Ear rubs and wisps of hay to Donk and any one else that likes that sort of thing.

DIY failure today. I bought the wrong lock for bathroom door.. ho hum. and now I've unwrapped it they won't take it back I dare say.

RacingSnake · 13/05/2010 22:10

You might well find they do, if it was a small shop.

SmallBunch, you might have a point there!

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 13/05/2010 22:28

at UniS being serenaded by her husband singing Old MacDonald!

We have a lovely local hardware shop that has, I think, had some of its stock since about 1957. If the loo lock came from that sort of shop I imagine they might take it back. Especially if you deploy your womanly wiles!

Racing, I'm going to shut up about this now, but it does sometimes sound as if you are having to construct an elaborate edifice in order to pretend that Wriggle is a French child growing up in France. And she will be a fluent French speaker, I am quite sure.

Encore de Bolly, tout le monde?

teafortwo · 13/05/2010 23:03

What is funny is that Milk is growing up in France but I suspect she has better English than Wiggle and Wiggle is growing up in England but I suspect she has better French than Milk! - Funny ol' World!

It is close to midight in my corner of the tearoom. This is very significant because at midnight Milk will turn 4 years old.

  • FOUR YEARS OLD - how did that happen???

with you Tea!

Small Bunch, je voudrais un soupcon de truc s'il vous plait

Old MacDonald without a child should be banned, I fear. I would agree, UniS, clearly our hardware chappies are far from the bucolic rural lovelies living near other tea room habitues. I buy the wrong lock? "sorry, Love, nothing I can do. It leaves the shop, it's yours"
My house is littered with inappropriate locks, wrong coloured mastic, inadequate door handles etc

Actually, maybe I could start a second hand hardware shop

oxeye · 13/05/2010 23:21

oh CMOT good news about your DH's sight too

thumbwitch · 13/05/2010 23:26

happy nearly birthday to Milk! pats on the hand for tea

boo hiss to M.Snake for being a meanie

rah rah to Oxeye for putting nursery straight

kudos to UniS for multi-DIY - I managed to move a wall-mounted heater from MrThumb's office to the bathroom yesterday, to make miniThumb's night change a more pleasant experience. No heating in a house I can stand, but freezing bathrooms are a bit much.

CMOTD - good news on MrD's eyes, hope they get better soon.

more bolly, smallbunch and anyone else?

teafortwo · 13/05/2010 23:40

Milk had her birthday treat today... we took three of her friends rowing on a lake in a wood and had a big wholesome picnic afterwards. It was a bit chilly and in my case wet (because Eccles kept jumping off the boat into the water then hugging me with glee straight afterwards ) but actually it was really very very nice!

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 13/05/2010 23:43

Bien sur, SorcieredePouce! Encore de Bolly! Et pour L'OeildeBoeuf aussi! Voici, je suis francophone ce soir!

Bonsoir a tous!

Thumb - I REALLY love your last post - it is a brilliant summary of this evening's discussion.

Night night xxx

thumbwitch · 13/05/2010 23:45

aw fanks tea - Milk's treat sounds fab! Sleep well

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 13/05/2010 23:46

But four year old girls are just scrumptious! It'll be a lovely year.

AandO · 13/05/2010 23:47

Just thought I'd pop in after Lost but it looks like everyone has gone to bed. Oh well, I'd best go too. See you in the morning x

AandO · 13/05/2010 23:48

Oh right, you're up again smallbunch! And Thumb is around still. My mistake!

thumbwitch · 13/05/2010 23:48

night A&O!

HOw old is posy, smallbunch? I have forgotten

oxeye · 14/05/2010 01:07

Morning AandO I'm here too!

I too laughed, Thumb, you have us in un petite nutshell

Well. since I was so accurate about the nationalities within the Bunch family, I am certainly not hazarding a guess at Posy's age- but it is greater than four

CMOTdibbler · 14/05/2010 08:39

Happy Birthday Milk . 13 days till CMOTiddler is 4 too. It seems so old, and such a short time till school.

UniS, you really are DIYtastic. I am shamed by my lack of motivation to do things myself these days.

You OK Donki ? Theres a large carrot cake for you in the priest hole

UniS · 14/05/2010 11:06

regretably the lock in question came from B*Q...

Today I have repressurised the boiler, following my marathon radiator bleeding session yesterday.

Really ought to go and make up spare room as we have friends staying over tonight.
toodle pip.

AandO · 14/05/2010 11:35

Morning all .

Happy 4th birthday Milk!! LittleO will be four in October.

I think posy is about 9, but I could be totally wrong.

When glancing through most active topics I for some crazy reason clicked on a thread about the death of a three year old . I cannot even begin to understand how people can survive through that. I wish I hadn't clicked on it now.

UniS · 14/05/2010 11:55

happy birthday

mistlethrush · 14/05/2010 12:20

First staying visitors in the house Unis??? Glad it all appears to be going well, albeit taking some time to get straight. I removed all the old silicon sealant and resealed the shower the other night - I now know why it doesn't work properly at least - one of those slightly flexible bases and they've put the bottom of the tiles on two sides over the edges of the shower - so when the shower base flexes, the tiles move - so that the seal goes more quickly and the shower leaks slowly out of the corner.....

Sorry, busy week

Hope things are goign a bit better Donks - and I think that you've made a sensible decision.

Why don't you write to some of the larger schools around and specifically mention you're looking for a job-share/ part time science job - you never know...

Tea - I'm glad things are much more positive with school - and sounds a nice birthday treat.
