Tea Room the Fifteenth - The Viking Hall

Here we are in the 15th instalment of the Tea Room for the One Child Family board. All are welcome, whether parents of a single splendid offspring or any other number.
We are this time in a Viking Long Hall tearoom, complete with optional helmets, roaring log fires (in case of chilly spring evenings), rugs aplenty, and all the usual mod cons of life as well.
Our Viking tea room contains Mellors the gardener/handyperson with a talent for relaxing massage (amongst a variety of other characters including Bishops, camels, bison, horses, guinea pigs, dogs, etc etc for reasons that would take too long to explain but you're welcome to read the other Tea Room threads and prepare to have your mind thoroughly boggled). Plenty of tea/coffee/cake/virtual bolly always on offer.
Join us, relax, chat, enjoy.

Its probably my fault Amber, I just emailed you

Anyone doing anything exciting for Le Weekend?

thumbwitch · 07/05/2010 16:28

It's Mothers' Day here in Australia this weekend. My "treat" is to go to the Australian Reptile Park, the principle being that not many other mothers would choose that as their treat. Not that I really mind, it's quite an interesting place!

It's also my second one of the year - MrThumb got two Father's Days last year so I said it was only fair that I had 2 this year. Don't think it'll wash next year though...

MiniThumb seems to be getting into his stride re. the Terrible Twos - starting to be unreasonable about doing things and failing to respond to bribery! As in, he would rather go without icecream/chocolate biscuit than eat his dinner . This is Not Good (especially as bribery is my Key Bad Mummy Method of getting him to eat ). He's also very into saying "NO!" now, I knew that was only a matter of time though so am not surprised, just a bit about it.

Ah well - my favourite new saying is "this too will pass" (goes quite well with "Que sera, sera", doesn't it) so I will just keep my head down and not fret too much.

amberlight · 07/05/2010 16:46

Le weekend will be friends, church, horse trials. Not in combination. Also lawn mower assembly (which isn't like school assembly).

I'm of to teh pub to celebrate after a little evening gardening... see you on teh flip side.

HestonUni???? Ohhhhh, was it the marshmallows and crisps incident... I really did do it a long time ago. Toasted marshmallow between two tortilla chips is fab.

teafortwo · 07/05/2010 23:44

Hello all!!!

Sorry I haven't popped in for a while. Life really is a bit mad right now! I am juggling like mad and when the moment is right will tell you all about it!!!

RS - I went to a lot of trouble to vote by proxy just so that my area knows that only 99.999999999999999999% of the people allowed to vote there are of the Toryfied kind too.

All of the English Mummys were looking very fragile on the school gate today!!! We huddled in a corner giving concerned nods and all biting our own lips sore.

amberlight · 08/05/2010 10:11

Tea!!!! Have a cuppa! So good to see you here again!

Ladies. I may be rather busy over the next couple of weeks, so wondered whether anyone would like a stress-busting aromatherapy massage now?

MellorsforPrimeMinister · 08/05/2010 18:47

No, Dave, I can't talk to you now. I have my duties to attend to in the tea room.

Oh hi, Nick. Can I call you back?

Gordon? Gordon who?

teafortwo · 08/05/2010 20:32

I presume Unis was too drunk tired to post in the end!!!

Ooooh - what a lovely cuppa Amber! Thanks daaarrrrlin'! Just what the dr ordered and all that! It is very nice here. Good job on the new dwelling by the way - it is soooo very very fab!!!

Oh well... Seeing as I am so very tired after a hard days work I will definately have a massage, Prime Mini...sorry... I mean Mellors!

MaryBS · 08/05/2010 21:15

I think Mellors is busy with his cabinet...

Think I am going down with the kids bug. Am coughing fit to bust!

amberlight · 09/05/2010 08:15

Ladies! Form a queue! Patently I was here first! Tsk!

Horse trials today. Mind if I borrow Earl and Lady Grey, the Viking Tea Hall horses, since Mr T is a bit elderly for all this cross-country lark now?

OP posts:
MaryBS · 09/05/2010 09:59

So long as they are found "not guilty" at the trials, can't have them locked up, they are so useful!

Mellors has prepared a lovely rub to loosen my chest, it seems to be working wonders! Or perhaps it was just his application of it that helped

Today is a day to spend in bed I think...

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 09/05/2010 12:45
MaryBS · 09/05/2010 12:48

Since I didn't get my day in bed, am tempted to disappear down the priest's hole (is it soundproofed?) to get away from a stroppy DS, a whingy DD and a moody DH.... I hate it when we are all sick! Particularly when I am sick, I like peace and quiet!

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 09/05/2010 13:34

Quick, Mary, jump up onto the massage table! There doesn't seem to be anyone ahead of you in the queue. Once Mellors starts applying the aromatic oils and puts a CD on the authentic Viking CD player, you will forget about your stroppy, whingy and moody dearest. For the CD, there's a choice of whale music, Andean flutes (obligatory in any spa), Bach or the Muppets. Which would you prefer?

MaryBS · 09/05/2010 14:27

I think the muppets! Thanks for the tip! Everyone else must be enjoying the sun, or watching the horses on trial (I do hope they get off!)

RacingSnake · 09/05/2010 22:20

Sun? Where??

Just a very brief visit as RL is very busy and very pleasant and harmonious.

Wriggle is being very stroppy and cheeky and, unfortunately, very funny, which makes discipline tricky. Still doing things her own way. For the last year all her friends have been doing jigsaws and, mindful of their educational value, I have been dutifully trying to interest her in 2, 4 and 12 piece puzzles. Friends' mummies have been so kind; 'Poor little Wriggle, bless, she'll get there one day,' as their children shine with their 24 piece puzzles ..... this weekend Wriggle has been obsessed with a collection of 60-piece puzzles she saw in a charity shop and wants to do nothing else.

DH is hardly coughing at all and is rising above minor and major frustrations .

The only problem is AP, who seems to give up totally at the tiniest frustration and have lost all confidence and I am not as patient, cheerful and caring as I could be.

And the fact that I have just had to explain to the neighbours that I kidnapped their broody hen and installed it in the maternity ward in our greenhouse while they were on holiday in Barbados when I got a bit carried away setting clutches of eggs ...

oxeye · 09/05/2010 22:40

ah Racing, I love your life, even the problems are exotic, or seem so to me

had a great weekend, just watching the constant gardner and weeping and ranting at the injustice of the world....

UniS · 09/05/2010 22:42

er, yeah, the night out at pub went on abit longer than sometimes...
Weekend has been given over to DHs family. Boy very happy to have seen all his cousins.

My culinary experiments have continued. I tried the "serving suggestion" on a pack of pre sliced malt loaf. and tried malt loaf with cheese... Not my favourite topping for malt loaf I must say. I think I prefer them separately, just butter on malt loaf for me.

Pilchard pie on the side for you try. its sort of quiche like, but with pilchards.

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 09/05/2010 22:48
RacingSnake · 09/05/2010 22:50

I wish I thought our life was exotic ... although did quite enjoy seeing Wriggle wrap her feet in newspaper when I said 'If you don't put something on your feet we are not going out'.

John Le Carre is good for weeping about the injustices of the world. I remember reading The Little Drummer Girl in the Mezquita in Cordoba, a very emotive juxtaposition.

Neighbours have just been round with a carrier bag full of nearly frozen meat for us as they have just discovered not only that we have kidnapped their chicken but also that they have had a power cut and their freezer was off and they will either have to cook everything tomorrow or bin it ... just off to research pheasant recipes.

teafortwo · 09/05/2010 22:54

Grrrr.... HorridMum's dd has told the other girls in Milk's class not to play with Milk because her Mummy says she mustn't and nor should they!!!

HM's dd explained to the other girls that "Milk shouldn't even be at this school!".

I know this because one of the girls was upset about not being allowed to play with Milk and dramatically complained to her Mum with quotes and her Mum who likes Milk a lot was worried about the situation so told me.

From my subtle but thorough prying into the workings of my child's mind I am pretty sure Milk has no idea that this is happening.

Actually, I know she doesn't because in the park she continued to try to play with HM's dd and it broke my heart to see her and her Mother's reaction. The little girl squirmed terribly and the Mother completely manipulated the situation to ensure dd was excluded asap.

I am not sure what I should do... if anything? Will it just blow over if I don't do anything or is this wishful thinking? [don't want to make things worse emotion]

I would really appriciate the tearoom's thoughts on this one.

x

oxeye · 09/05/2010 23:56

oh Tea, I am so sorry for you and Milk - I am afraid I can't remember why HorridMum won't let her DD play with Milk - am I right that what has happened now is HorridMum's DD is telling other children not to play with milk parroting her mum or has HorridMum told her DD to tell all the children not to play with Milk

If HorridMum's DD was wanting to play with Milk that must make it even harder....
