Episode 34 - The Tearoom moves to New England

beanandspud · 22/09/2012 23:25

At this time of year New England is famous for its glorious foliage as billions of leaves change from green to a kaleidoscope of colours. The air is crisp and cool ? perfect for hiking, biking or a drive along back roads, where farm stands are piled high with crunchy apples and orange pumpkins.

Everyone is welcome. There are tea, cakes and wine aplenty so pull up a comfortable chair and join us.

The usual rule applies - no fisticuffs please!

Have a good trip bean!

Scout19075 · 03/11/2012 08:27

Enjoy your trip, bean (and family)!

SmallBoy "woke up" around 5:30 a.m. which woke me up. I got up for the loo and came back to find SB trying to climb into my bed. I put him in and crawled in myself -- he promptly fell back into a deep sleep and I've been awake ever since. He's still sleeping soundly, as are my PiL, but I'm wide awake. I think I'll get dressed soon and get ready to go to the town center to get MrScout a balloon and to make some copies.

Scout19075 · 03/11/2012 20:42

MrScout's home -- YAY!

Scout19075 · 03/11/2012 21:08

I think SB has decided to share his cold and my body is finally giving in to it now that MrScout is home to take over.

I think I need sweet tea.

UniS · 03/11/2012 22:05

Brew one sweet tea coming right up scout.

Scout19075 · 03/11/2012 22:14

Thanks, UniS. Did you do your fireworks tonight?

Scout19075 · 04/11/2012 12:05

SmallBoy is bouncing off of the walls. He's SOOOO excited Daddy's back he's barely left his side or stopped talking a mile-a-minute at MrScout.

Awwww.

UniS · 04/11/2012 22:30

Nope- Bonfire night is the 5th, so we do fireshow on the 5th .

oxeye · 05/11/2012 01:05

good luck tomorrow UniS - I remember the awesome Fireshow from prevoius years
looking forward to rather tamer fireworks here!

glad Mr Scout home in one piece, hope you're okScout
have a great hol Bean !

Banderchang · 05/11/2012 16:11

I'm still here but not managing to keep up at all! Hope everyone is well and keeping warm in the chilly weather. We did fireworks last night because DH is out tonight, so DS and I are staying inside in the warm tonight. We did our first ever trick or treating last week - much excitement and we're still eating the spoils!

Apologies for not keeping up - will try harder!

Scout19075 · 06/11/2012 10:31

Brrrr.

Stupid boiler went out again while we were away. It's effin' cold in our house. The plumber is doing an emergency call out this afternoon (we didn't get home in time yesterday to have him come yesterday so we spent a very cold night). SmallBoy's cold, which was going away, seems to have come back in the cold. Gah. We're only back for a few days before heading off to the US.

I'm so excited to be going home!

Maud, thank you to you and Girl for SmallBoy's card -- he likes it very much and it's going on his door with his train postcards and flags (trains & countries).

UniS · 06/11/2012 23:13

Are you off at the weekend then scout? Hope your trip goes well.

Fireshow was a good un this year. the play eve had a storyline that lots of people followed. The Burn was great with Mount Fuji erupting and lava "flowing" .

Jacksmania · 07/11/2012 00:17

Yes, when are you leaving for the US, Scout? I bet Mom and Dad Scout are even more excited than you :). And you'll be in the same sort of time zone as me (generally... within a few hours anyway).

How's everyone?

oxeye · 07/11/2012 03:26

Hello all
Banderchang don't apologise, there is no obligation to keep up I never know what is happening but the joy of the tea room is you jump right in as and when you fancy

Scout have happy trip and fun

UniS glad your Fireshow was good we saw lovely but tame in comparison fireworks!

I do love Bonfire Night!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 07/11/2012 17:22

::Clasps Oxeye to her ample bosooom::

::Slurps some lovely hot chocolate that, even if she didn't realise it, Jacksmania left on the bar::

Personally, I haven't known what's going on for at least the last decade.

I'm so glad SmallBoy liked his card - I hoped he would find it appealing.

We didn't go to any fireworks but, for the first time ever, had fireworks at home. Or, rather, one enormous firework that The Bloke bought, in what I can only assume is the winter version of that affliction that some men get in the summer, when they feel they have regularly to incinerate meat in the back garden. This time it was causing explosions!

CMOTDibbler · 07/11/2012 17:38

Grin at the manly firework urge - tis a primal urge to make fire I think.

We have double fireworks this year - we went to them at the local rugby stadium (brilliant - sitting down in the stands out of the rain), then we have school ones on Friday evening.

Anyone for Wine ? Tiddler has been at turns charming and trying today, and after a day at my parents on Monday I am all out emotionally.

On the upside, I have had the last three days off, so have balanced cake (dark choc and clementine yesterday, pear and parsnip with salted caramel today) against long dog/ pony walks. I have kept up this weightloss for the longest time I've ever dieted, so am not going to sabotage it - but the cake was lush.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 07/11/2012 17:42

Exactly, Cmot. In the summer, it manifests itself by barbecuing meat. In the winter by setting off heavy artillery in the back garden.

Well done on the weight loss. The cakes sound fabulous if I ignore the parsnip.

CMOTDibbler · 07/11/2012 19:45

You really wouldn't have said it had parsnip in at all. A Whole Foods Market opened today in a nearby city, and they have a distressingly good selection of gf cakes.

Scout19075 · 07/11/2012 21:08

Three more sleeps until we leave -- WAHOO! SB is VERY excited about going on an airplane and having "special lunch" (despite the fact we keep telling him he'll eat dinner on the plane, not lunch).

beanandspud · 07/11/2012 21:28

Not long to go Scout! Small Bean loves aeroplane food despite the fact that it is generally pretty depressing!

CMOT - don't suppose you are around in Nearby Big City on the evening of the 23rd as I am there with work that night.

Greetings to the tearoom from sunny holiday! We are enjoying a relaxing week and even though I have had a horrible cold for the last few days we are having a good time.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 07/11/2012 22:25

Wahoo, Scout!

Jacksmania · 08/11/2012 06:15

Scout, should I send your Christmas card to your folks or to the UK?

Scout19075 · 08/11/2012 09:15

Passports dug out of hiding along with my purse of USD and US points & discount cards. Excited? Me? Does it show? Grin

Will post properly when not on phone.

mistlethrush · 08/11/2012 15:06

Have a great time!

We thought we'd sorted housetraining, then we had a bad day yesterday - culminating in a wet trip into the garden last thing at night which was only partially sucessful, followed by the clear indication that nothing else was being done - as it was saved up for the hall mat. Hmm However she found out clearly that I was not at all amused - nothing physical, although I did pull her off the sofa where she'd gone to skulk and made her sit on her mat in the hall until most of the clearing up was done.

However, last night was the first night where she didn't worry about where DH was all the time he was out. Which is very positive.
