Why is nursery so expensive??
Ok, so not really a question but more of a moan! I understand all the overheads etc ... but for TWO MORNINGS a week, it's costing over £500 a month
We are in a rather pricey area of west London... but still... I keep thinking of all the clothes I could buy for that!!
Lazypuppy · 18/03/2019 21:26
Thats very expensive. My dd goes 5mornings a week and that costs us £470.
Dont forget about tax free childcare, knocks 20%off if both parents are working
PotteringAlong · 18/03/2019 21:30
That’s ridiculously expensive. You can’t really be paying £70 per morning?
Chottie · 18/03/2019 21:32
OP - how many children is this for?
Youngandfree · 18/03/2019 21:33
Jesus that’s crazy!! 😮I pay 380 for 4 weeks for two children and that’s every day!! It’s free until 12 for younger DC, then 4 per hour after that, then my older DC goes after school and is on a discounted sibling rate (half price) so 2 per hour extra!! We’re in Ireland though. 😬
SherlockSays · 18/03/2019 21:40
I'll be paying about £600 a month for 4 full days a week! That's crazy money..
Don't forget to sign for a tax free childcare account, that will offset a little of the cost.
TeddyIsaHe · 18/03/2019 21:42
How is it that much?! I pay around £700 pm give or take for 3 full days (£51 per day). How much is your day rate?
Starburst8 · 18/03/2019 21:46
I thought it was bad that the nursery mine go to have increased the price to £59 a day.
I get where you're coming from, nursery prices are quite shocking when you consider how much you'll earn after paying out. I now understand why people don't work... but that's a whole different thread.
Flop3 · 18/03/2019 21:51
That seems very expensive, even for London!! We pay £170pm for two mornings a week (live in Scotland) and I think that is expensive
firsttimemummy11 · 18/03/2019 22:05
I agree nursery is ridiculously expensive, our little boy starts in May and it's going to cost £1376 pm for 4 days .... we're in South East London...
Since2016 · 18/03/2019 22:14
750 per month here for two days. London. It is expensive. Our day rate is £86. London is pricey.
Amimissingsomethinghere · 19/03/2019 07:14
It's 65.40 for an AM session....555.90 per month for two AM sessions a week
Amimissingsomethinghere · 19/03/2019 07:15
We also have the tax free thing but it only equates to £50 off a month...
Amimissingsomethinghere · 19/03/2019 07:17
Gosh sometimes I wished we didn't live centrally. It's so painful...
The nursery was lovely but not exactly amazing ..
UndercoverAthiest · 19/03/2019 07:17
Have you considered a childminder instead? I’m in SW London and have found them much more reasonable and flexible for shorther hours
Amimissingsomethinghere · 19/03/2019 07:23
That's a really good point.. I should explore the childminder option more...
How did you find yours? X
MrsL2016 · 19/03/2019 07:26
Am I doing my maths wrong? But shouldn't it be £110 off with tax free childcare? 20%
Bananalanacake · 19/03/2019 07:26
in Germany we pay 150euro a month, for 5 days a week 7 until 2pm. But you have to send them in with a breakfast and microwaveable lunch.
Seahawk80 · 19/03/2019 07:39
I'm in SE London and we pay 875 a month for 2.5 days, the tax free allowance takes it down to £721 but the tax free allowance is only 10k a year so in London that isn't going to cover all the fees! We would be lost without Grandparents helping 1.5 days a week. I just keep thinking how rich we'll feel in about 5 years time (assuming that we have a second!)
Amimissingsomethinghere · 19/03/2019 08:17
Yes I thought it was 20% off the whole fee but it's only of the first £124 or something... it's a bit confusing. I'm not working but my husband looked into it at work yesterday and apparently that's the most we can get off
Amimissingsomethinghere · 19/03/2019 08:18
Gosh, Banana, that's so cheap! I am so jealous!!
Bobbiepin · 19/03/2019 08:27
£1123 for 4 days here, SE London too. Its appalling. Have a look for the video explaining the difference in Swedish childcare.
Crumbelina · 19/03/2019 08:31
The day rate for my 18 month old is £94! London, obvs. And I have a 3 year old in the same nursery. We're broke!
coffeeforone · 19/03/2019 08:36
Our fees are similar, but there is a full time discount. With Tax free childcare you will save 20% on all if you don't pay more than £833 a month.
coffeeforone · 19/03/2019 08:41
Sorry just realised you aren't working so unfortunately can't get tax free childcare, only vouchers.
OKBobble · 19/03/2019 08:42
Overheads, rent, utilities, staff cost. Ghat's why. Anyway your child or more clothes???
