...a private room (other than the manager's office) for confidential chats??

Something Twiglett said has got me wondering if this room is necessary or wasted space

As nursery users what do you think?

As far as I know both of the nurseries my dc's have been to have only had the managers office - why could that not be used for confidential chats?

I find that if we need a chat with the manager privately they just use the managers office also the way the nursery is set out there isn't often any one else within earshot anyway although I do drop dd off at a busy time!

Is it a big nursery?

this would work (for privacy)?

We are based in the Village Hall and don't have a separate Managers Office but there are 2 other rooms we can use (unless they're being used by other groups) and we tend to book the smaller one for whenever we have a run of parent meetings to go over the profiles etc.

The nursery 2 semidetatched houses. It has a conservatory at the from and back the one at the front acts as a cloakroom and the managers office then each room has it's own doors which are usually shut to stop children escaping! the area outside the managers office isn't used first thing or last thing when most drop offs & pick ups are done.
That looks good - would the interview room be better as a store room? I know the old nursery we used had a store room with fridge and freezer etc although they always had dinners brought in as they didn't have a kitchen but had microwace etc in the staff room to enable them to do beans on toast etc for tea

not sure how necessary the Interview Room really is, but can I ask a really dumb question...

do two of the adult loos open off the staff room?
if so, I guess the staff can't make tea in the tea room as that's make is a Food Prep Area.
So they have to make tea in the kitchen and carry hot cups through the nursery to the staff room to drink it?

I only ask because we've been jumoing through these kind of hoops re having a tea room opening off our lab...

Mrsbadge & Whoops - I am hoping the staff will eat with the children - but plan(ed?) to put a toaster M/W & Kettle plus mini fridge in the staff room

well there is the manager's office, with a door which can be shut.
and on the top floor (loft conversion kind of thing) is a staff room so i guess that could be used?

Forgot about the 2 doors rule - was trying to make it easy to take hand bags into the loo.....that can't happen can it

The nursery that dd goes to now the staff eat with the children can't remember the old one though. I think the microwave and toaster was in the staff room more for safety although the baby room kitchen did have one.
The nursery now oes have it's own kitchen but thinking about it, it is next to the toilets although there are 2 doors. I don't think though this nursery does have a staff room as I have seen staff sitting in the wet area rooms having a break

So how do I sort out the no food prep next to the toilet rule

Which is more important

Handbags to toilet (3-5 days a month....for 22 staff) or tea/coffee in the staff room??

I'd have tea/coffee as kids aren't going to understand why the girls are taking their handbags to the toilet plus do they have pockets in the trousers or be able to keep supplies in the toilets?
When I worked in a leisure centre the staff room wasn't very close to the staff room in fact I think there was a flight of stairs between!

But we will (I hope) have men working there too

put it this way, there's no risk in carrying handbags through the nursery, whereas carrying hot cups...

So 2 staff loos off the staffroom, and 2 further loos off the lobby for parents and the after-school kids?

place dd goes to has a managers office and a kitchen where all the food is made with a breakfast bar and a hallway between the two all separate from the kids rooms so plenty of places for a chat. but so far i've just stood in the room with dd to talk to them about anything

Mrsbadge - I agree about risk - I'll see if I can jiggle it??

oh, and regarding men / women's toilets, having unisex ones with a sink inside each cubicle can save a lot of space if you're short...

Our (dd's) nursery has an open-plan manager's office, divided from the kids' coat pegs by a chest-height wall. It's great, as we can just say 'hello' or have a casual chat with the owner or manager or whoever, rather than seeking them out. The one time we needed a confidential talk (dd accidentally given double dosage of medicine ...) we were taken to one of the rooms that wasn't in use at the time, the kitchen/dining room. I'm not sure what they'd do if someone turned up at lunchtime needing to talk, I suspect there'd be a room somewhere not in use.

but aren't there 4 loos on the plan? I'm lost now - sure you know what you're doing though!
