...a private room (other than the manager's office) for confidential chats??

Something Twiglett said has got me wondering if this room is necessary or wasted space

As nursery users what do you think?

Sorry - each loo in it's own room - not in a row of cubicle (excpet for the mini loos)

I have put a new picture up (but it's very small)

I have moved the disabled loo accross and made a foyer

That means the staff have to share the public/OOSC loos but also have 1 private one off the staff room

Katy, could you have one door opening off the staff room to a tiny lobby, then two loos opening off that?

(I'd have the disabled loo accessed from the front lobby by reception anyway in case you have reduced-mobility parents or afterschoolers, which might alter your use of space a bit...)

MrsBadger · 05/02/2007 21:10

ah yes - that solves your food prep issue - are there still sufficient loos for the no of staff?

Katymac · 05/02/2007 21:13

Don't know....neither do I know if staff & children (5-11yr olds) can share

hi
when you refered to the '2 doors rule' did you mean between the kitchen and the toilet? if you did, would be worth enquiring with planning as not sure it exists anymore. I work for a Planning supervisor and queried this when doing the H&S file for council improvement works, it no longer applies in private homes in this area (suffolk).

also, if space in loo is limited you could fix a small cabinet to the wall above the loo for the ladies to leave their 'things' in?

MrsBadger · 05/02/2007 21:18

6-25 people at work = 2 water closets, 2 wash stations

not sure re sharing either

Katymac · 05/02/2007 21:18

Thanks EllieK - I think as I'm going to be commercial - that wouldn't apply (nice to know for my own home tho')

Ours has a little room with a sofa in. It is used for parents to hide in when their child is having a "settling in" session. The more nervous parents can wait in the room, so they are on the premises but out of sight during the session. The rest of us go out for coffee and enjoy our new found freedom!
I think if you needed a confidential chat, that is where it would happen. The manager's office is a bit like Euston Station in rush hour.

EllieKwithabigbump · 05/02/2007 21:26

would be worth checking tho as i only had to enqire about council properties, they quite often follow the same rules as commercial. they have relaxed a lot of building regs lately, makes my job a nightmare!

MrsBadger · 05/02/2007 21:31

the building regs say loo and food prep have to be 'seperate', doesn't say 'two doors' specifically - guess it depends on your building inspector...

Katymac · 05/02/2007 21:35

My building inspector is going to hate me

Between straw bales & newspaper as an insulators along with solar panels & rainwater harvesting...he is really going to hate me

EllieKwithabigbump · 05/02/2007 21:36

will make a nice change from people hating him

Katymac · 05/02/2007 21:40

That's what I thought - It will be a novel experience for him......

EllieKwithabigbump · 05/02/2007 21:51

besides, he gets paid enough, about time they had to work for it!

Katymac · 05/02/2007 21:55

I doubt he will agree
