I'm due to start methylphenidate once I have my private prescription.....anyone able to share experiences of starting it? My anxiety levels are even worse since I was diagnosed & I'm so worried about starting to take it but I know I need to just get on with it!

It's very odd, isn't it? I've been ok on 10mg, but I thought I'd try 20mg out again on a day that I have more planned. I do tomorrow, so I'll try it then. It seemed to cause me problems when I was sitting on my computer, which is something I want to avoid anyway.

I'm now on 72mg slow release. It's great but I have been forgetting to eat then feeling faint. I've also developed an addiction to caffeine free Coke Zero! Trying to decide whether to stick with 72mg or go back down to 54mg & take it a bit later!

Try eating something before you take it, that should help.

Says she who doesn't follow her own advice and eats shit. 😉🤣

Hi all. Diagnosed last month and started elvanse 30mg today. How am I meant to feel? What are others experiences of this? How long until I see benefits. I’ve felt ok today, bit more hyper but way less anxious. Not more focussed AT all though

BodegaSushi · 23/05/2023 16:19

Hey, checking in again and looking for support I guess?

I know irritability can be a side effect, but does anyone notice this if they miss a dose?

I left home today without my pills so haven't had any today. I had such a great day yesterday, finally feeling balanced and I fuck it up today by being my usual self 🫤

I am so incredibly crabby today. Every little thing is setting me off and I even had a cry after it seemed like everything was working against me. I can't wait for my work day to end I can hopefully start over again tomorrow

Hi, I'm on a different type of medication but I didn't feel much different until I increased the dose

This is what I'm doing. I've gone back down a dose to see how I manage for a while. I think my issue is that I want to see fast results and want to give up quickly if I don't think it's working

@BodegaSushi Ah, you've not fucked up, you've missed one day off meds, no biggie! In situations like today, I prescribe chocolate.

I've eaten a box of those Krispy Kreme glazed 'bites' 😕

Really annoyed with myself because it's my longest day at work so could have really done with it.

But I've ordered one of these pill boxes from Amazon because part of problem is that (shock) I don't have a sensible organisation system in place

The only thing that works for me is keeping all my meds in a box on the coffee table so I see it first thing. It stays in my line of vision when I'm drinking my coffee.

I've back down to 54mg. Had a headache for over 24 hours now. Not sure if I'm ill or it's related to that!

I've heard that that's a common side effect!

ADHDQueen · 26/05/2023 21:45

Can I join you? I started Delmosart a week ago, on 18mg extended-release. Had a few initial side effects of feeling sick, dry mouth etc, but nothing drastic. Nothing at all positive in the way of my ADHD symptoms.

Today I increased to 36mg. Had a dry mouth for a bit, but not horrendously so. Still no improvement in my ADHD symptoms though. 😕I was hoping for at least something! Does the fact that I'm getting literally NOTHING mean it probably won't work for me at all or could I see miraculous improvement at 54 or 72mg? 🤔

Just coming back to this thread to update/document.

Hope everyone else is getting on OK?

I have been on 10mg Medikinet Adult (XR) and I have some days tried 2x of this to see if it's better.

I found the 10mg alleviates my constant exhaustion and lifts me just enough to allow me to cope and seems to help a bit with time blindness relating to tasks. However, 20mg seems to make me almost TOO focused and I get really irritated with the DC interrupting me and get hideous brain fog especially in the late afternoon.

I told her: To me, as a layperson, it kind of feels like thr 20mg is too strong and I can't tolerate it, but I had read that a slightly-too-low dose can result in worsened symptoms, and really all of these things aren't side effects so much as worsened symptoms, so she agreed and said yes, it's worth trying 30mg. Glad to have a green light for that, so I will (probably tomorrow).

However the other thing she mentioned is that it may be rebound. When the medication wears off it can cause a kind of "crash" and worsened symptoms. And this may be what I'm feeling on the 20mg. So she has prescribed me an instant release 10mg (even though it's only approved for children) so I can experiment with this and find out how it works for me.

So I have 3 new options to try out over the next 4 weeks before my next appointment.

3x 10mg XR - to see if a stronger one is better
2x10mg IR morning + 1x lunchtime - to see if the instant release is better
1x 10mg XR morning + 1x lunchtime IR - to see if a stronger "boost" in the afternoon is better.

At the very least the 10mg XR is helping. I ran out before I got my refill and I really missed it!

BertieBotts · 23/06/2023 11:43

Delmosart is like Concerta - it's a different delivery method to other types of methylphenidate. With the others you either get an instant release, or 2x instant releases over the course of the day. With Concerta/Delsomart/Kinecteen (my teenager takes this) it's apparently like a paste inside and as it absorbs water from your gut, it slowly squeezes out so you're getting a tiny little bit drip drip drip throughout the day, which is supposed to avoid the rollercoaster feeling of the instant release type meds.

So yes, in short, a higher dose might feel different. Keep going with it and keep a diary, it seems to help me notice patterns that I hadn't especially been able to see without writing this down.

They can also cause dehydration so remember to drink, everyone! Especially when it's really hot.
