I know change is rarely good when you're neurodiverse but is anyone else finding this update particulary difficult?

I'm struggling with the lack of clear definition between posts. I rarely read long posts as I can't process walls of text and without the blue line the whole thread becomes a wall a text.

The whole thing is now more gray and 'samey' and so hard to focus on. It's actually giving me a headache trying to concentrate.

Yes, first of all had to change p/w to sign; would prefer the old look (could we keep MN classic perhaps?), I don't like it much at present!😡

BlackeyedSusan · 20/04/2022 14:44

It's weird

IDontLikeThisTomfoolery · 20/04/2022 15:36

Yes.
I even tried to start to post here earlier asking if anyone else was feeling overwhelmed with it and I gave up because I kept getting massive full screen black boxes.

Its been a struggle to read anything because it hurts my eyes and makes me feel nauseous, spend more time scrolling past full screen ads and white space.

Was reading a thread on site and got booted off, because the big full screen error pop ups won’t piss off and the bookmarks are not working and I’m not scrolling past 200+ messages and the extra white space trying to find where I was up to.

I hope the app gets fixed soon. I can get used to the new locations of things after so long but if the spacing and white background affects my health in the form of feeling and and headaches after just ten mins then I won’t be able to use MN long enough to get used to the changes that I’d get used to over time.

EssexLioness · 20/04/2022 15:49

Yes I find the new layout awful. It is the final straw for me, after being disillusioned with the prejudice on here re ND. Someone recommended the Wrong Planet which is a large forum for autistic people so I am going to o go on there. The layout is better and I am not going to be judged or read offensive stereotypes of autism on there. I’m glad really as the new layout has given me the final push I needed to leave here

LadyCordeliaFitzgerald · 20/04/2022 16:03

Gah. My eyes hurt.

Wrong planet sounds promising

BoardLikeAMirror · 20/04/2022 16:47

It's spoiled MN for me, this.

BachAndByte · 20/04/2022 16:50

I don’t like it either. I generally find white space helps with reading so don’t mind that so much but the flashing adverts and scrolling aren’t great.

I would go to Wrong Planet but unless it’s changed they don’t like people like me over there.

cloudberry · 20/04/2022 17:21

@BringBackCoffeeCreams can you get onto the Ukraine invasion thread now? Sorry to intrude here but I feel relieved to see a name I recognise and I too am feeling completely overwhelmed by what is going on with MN today. So much so that I don't even know where to begin. I find change really really hard to deal with and I really only interact with the thread I mentioned and now feel quite upset not to be able to get on to it. I've had to log out, clear my cookies which has succeeded in clearing masses of stuff I've had for ages but not resolved my issue with Mumsnet. I can barely get on to anything - just get the Apologies window ..... it is really putting me off the whole thing

AndyMurraysCat · 20/04/2022 17:23

I hate it

Awrite · 20/04/2022 17:25

I hate the new layout. Hate it.

I was using classic (I think) where op was at the bottom and there were no pages. Yes, it's the lack of defition. It seems haphazard and there are big gaps of white.

AlexaShutUp · 20/04/2022 17:26

I usually hate stuff like this, but surprisingly, I like it!

Witch708 · 20/04/2022 17:26

I dont like the new layout. Too much scrolling.

BoardLikeAMirror · 20/04/2022 17:31

Another thing is that according to a thread on Site Stuff, it now allows quoting a quote ad infinitum - in other words, nesting. Nesting is why I don't use Reddit and other forums - I can't cope with reading nested threads at all.

AchillesPoirot · 20/04/2022 17:35

I hate it. And it’s functionally a disaster.

Svara · 20/04/2022 17:49

I use dark mode so I have white text on grey. Is that an option for those struggling with the white?

Oh no. That's why I don't use those forums too.

How do you get dark mode?

Yes, I've been let out of nuclear quarantine.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 20/04/2022 18:38

How do you get dark mode?

I just have it on on my phone. With the options like WiFi, sound, Bluetooth etc.

IDontLikeThisTomfoolery · 20/04/2022 19:26

Dark mode on iphone is under settings - display/brightness.

I’ve just turned it on on my phone and it does dull the white and black text slightly but not enough to not make me feel nauseous and headachey for mumsnet and it’s also changed the appearance of the rest of my phone so I’m not sure I like it but the subtle change might be enough to stop the headache feeling.

Ive never posted here before but lurk a lot and it’s been overwhelming to access the site today, I’m really sorry to those of you who post a lot and find support and routine from doing so and haven’t been able to.

IncompleteSenten · 20/04/2022 19:28

I hate it.

But I've hated every single change they've made in about 20 years!

I'm assuming I'll get used to it in the end. 🤬

MummytoCSJH · 20/04/2022 19:29

I hate it. Will probably stop using MN. Every time I’ve been on during my normal few minutes I just feel weird and have left the site.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 20/04/2022 23:18

Wrong Planet is okay, but very American centered.

I dunno whether I like the change here yet as still trying to get used to it.

Can somebody explain more what nesting is? I don't understand the original description.

BlackeyedSusan · 20/04/2022 23:36

Nesting:
Before we could quote one post. No-one could quote a post with a quotation embedded.

Now you can quote a post that contains a quotation, and keep on working posts with quotations so they stack up in a big grey box with lines and confusion and potential meltdowns.
