Pulp are the MOST underrated band ever!

I love them so much!

Whose with me?

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 12/11/2010 02:07

I see this is an old thread but just had to join in the love for Pulp. I was the odd kid at my school who didn't give a toss about Take That or Boyzone but just sat around obsessing over "Something Changed" :)

Jarvis was definitely shaggable back in the day, and he really did have the most incredible hand gestures didn't he? That "Do you Remember...?" video has just reminded me.

Olifin · 12/11/2010 02:17

Oooooh , elephant, I'm with you, totally. I was utterly in love with Jarv back in the day: the lyrics, the voice, the hand gestures, the dancing...there was something very wrong about him that gave him sex appeal :)

Olifin · 12/11/2010 02:18

Fired up by my purchase of Pulp tickets for next yea, I have spent a large proportion of this evening watching old Pulp live performances (e.g. Glasto '95) and being fascinated by Jarv's hand gestures.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 12/11/2010 02:22

Yeah but I still like skinny sarcastic men to this day. And he is just a great mover, he probably could have been a dancer or something (in the same way that e.g. Freddie Mercury just moved with grace).

The voice...Blush

"Well I've kissed your mother twice, and I'm working on your dad"

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 12/11/2010 02:26

I used to really really fancy this much older boy, and he was the only other person I knew who was into them.

So...Wireless - what's that then?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 12/11/2010 02:32

btw Oli - have you just come on and done a search for Pulp, and posted on every thread ever in your excitement? :o

Olifin · 12/11/2010 02:33

Weeeelll, Wireless is a 3 day festival in Hyde Park next summer, beginning of July. Pulp are headlining on the Sunday (July 3rd) on the Main stage. There will be loads of other bands performing; but I'm only interested in Pulp, really. Tix are about £55 for the one day (Sunday) but they work out cheaper if you do 2/3 days of the festival.

Personally, I will be going along on the Sunday and tolerating all the other bands until the might Jarv appears.

Yes, I'm so with you. Pulp provided the soundtrack to my teenage/college years. So many weird and wonderful memories wrapped up in those songs :)

Olifin · 12/11/2010 02:35

and...yes, in my excitement about my Pulp tickets, I searched mumsnet to see if any other posters were talking about the festival. But they weren't so...just me :)

Olifin · 12/11/2010 02:38

Can I recommend watching (on Youtube) a performance of 'I Spy' that they did on Jools Holland some years ago? Spellbinding.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 12/11/2010 02:47

yes you can recommend that :)

I can't afford that for one day without knowing that everyone else performing will be marvellous too (and not encouraged by recent lineups because I'm a boring person who hates dance music). Having said that I am spending £30 to see Arcade Fire in December...

Olifin · 12/11/2010 03:10

Yeah...I'm not much of a dance music fan either but reckon I'll get into it on the day; after a few ales, obviously. Nice to share a love of Pulp online at such an ungodly hour...night!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 12/11/2010 03:24

< >

yeah thank you! it is nice to share my painful obsessive adolescent crush interest in the music of Pulp.

:o

kittya · 12/11/2010 23:52

My one regret is the Glastonbury I missed when they played. And, it looks like they will play this year as well, when I couldnt get a ticket!!

Im not getting tickets for Wireless on principle though because I think they will do a Blur and tour as well.

One of my favourites is off the last album "Poor Imititation" Ive had wine, I better go and dig it out.

WildPansy · 12/11/2010 23:54

I absolutely love them and did buy Wireless tickets. Even if they do tour I won't regret it. Am looking forward to next July already Grin.

kittya · 12/11/2010 23:57

Im still holding out that I will get Glasto tickets the weekend before. They are bound to headline it.

WildPansy · 13/11/2010 00:12

Do you believe that there's someone up above? And does he have a timetable directing acts of love?

WildPansy · 13/11/2010 00:13

( Grin)

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/11/2010 00:56

Thanks for the explanation WildPansy - was wondering :o

Glad I'm not alone in my meltingness.

Sure they will tour - they will, won't they?

Joolyjoolyjoo · 13/11/2010 01:01

I'm actually a bit sad that they have reformed. I saw them at T-in-the Park years ago, in the "e's and whizz" era, and that's how I like to remember them. It was music for a specific time- you should never go back! (but by all means listen to and wallow in nostalgia)

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/11/2010 01:04

It looks like he's wearing eyeliner in the "when we woke up this morning we had no way of knowing" bit.

I loves blokes in eyeliner I does.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/11/2010 01:05

Ah but joolyjoo - I know what you mean, hate all the other bands all grey and haggard reforming. But I was too young to see Pulp when they were last playing, this would be my only chance!

I like to think they wouldn't reform if they couldn't do a good job of it.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 13/11/2010 01:36

"But I was too young to see Pulp when they were last playing, this would be my only chance!"

Ouch- rub it in Grin

I'm sure they'll do a fairly good job of it, but it won't be so relevant somehow. (But then, I am one of those old buggers who says "ooh- I prefer their old stuff" Wink)

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/11/2010 01:51

I know it won't be as good. And I know that Jarvis is no longer a snake-hipped youngster but a bit of a beardy old trout. But I lurved them.

Yeah didn't want to say about being too young as last time I mentioned something like that I got a virtual smack round the head. But couldn't think of another way to explain it. "Oh yes I had to be in at 7pm in the mid-nineties because...I was 11 on probation"

WildPansy · 13/11/2010 09:53

"Jarvis is no longer a snake-hipped youngster but a bit of a beardy old trout." LIES Shock [denial emoticon]

kittya · 13/11/2010 12:00

I was in my prime the first time round now, Im not so Blush

I must admit, he hasnt aged as well as Damon but, then he never was a looker. A perve but, not a looker. I would still give him a whirl though.

I love his wit. I will go but not to the big parkie thing. I dont like it as a venue. Im hoping they will do something smaller.

No, it wont be the same. I wonder if he will roll around the floor again?

I dont like it when bands reform and do this generally but I can understand why they do it. There is a reccession on.
