Trying to remember name of folk band

This is a long shot, but hopefully someone will know what I'm wittering on about...

They were a large group, had a weird name, and were on TV just after Christmas 2008 playing in a folk concert - but it was modern folk, I guess.

I really liked them, but forgot to write down their name. The lead singer played violin as well. It's driving me mad trying to remember!

It was on very late - I remember Dh and I stayed up to watch it as we were fascinated by this group, even though we were knackered.

Was it Hogmanay live? Phil Cunningham/Ali Bain apparently appeared with a band - but they don't sing.

TSC beat me to it.

tootootired · 08/05/2010 00:07

Could it have been Bellowhead - although I can't find a reference to the TV appearance.

all folk groups have weird names

PrincessBoo · 08/05/2010 00:08

was it 'The imagined Village'?

piratecat · 08/05/2010 00:09

i'm thinking the Unthanks too? Polyphonic spree seemed to have been prolific in 2004-5?. Arcade Fire maybe aswell

seeker · 08/05/2010 00:12

If i said Silly Wizard, would anyone here know what I was talking about?

MarkOatensHankyPanky · 08/05/2010 00:14

Munford and Sons?

FromGirders · 08/05/2010 00:41

Capercaillie tend to be on at Hogmanay. I think they have an electric fiddle in there somewhere.

NathanBarley · 08/05/2010 10:36

DuelingFanjo · 08/05/2010 11:35

SwansEatQuince · 08/05/2010 11:36
