Plus have you liked any "popular music" lately?

I suppose my comfort albums would be:

Radiohead- bends/ok computer
Rem- Automatic for the people
Crowded House- Recurring dream
Frank Black & The Catholics: Dog in the sand

Lately I really do love florence and the machine, err thats about it really.

The whole Libertines/Artic monkeys thing baffled me really, didn't get it at all.

Nick Drake / Kings of Convenience / Badly drawn Boy's 'Bewilderbeast' are all 'comfort blanket' classics for me. Lately I'm loving Midlake and Death cab for Cutie. Fire 'em up on Spotify!

displayuntilbestbefore · 20/04/2010 18:33

Arcade Fire so I can sing really loudly along to it
Flaming lips for same reasons as above

and you can't beat A-Ha Hunting High and Low to pick you up from feeling down beat IMO

FlyMeToDunoon · 20/04/2010 18:42

Fats Waller, the best of.
Paul McCartney, Ram. He usually gives me the dry boak.
The lightening Seeds, best of.
Second Aha!

Atm I like very little.

justallovertheplace · 20/04/2010 18:58

Most recent one for me is Youth Novels by Lykke Li

justallovertheplace · 20/04/2010 18:59

Suede- DogManStar
Pulp- His 'n' Hers
Hole- Live Through This

I'm trying to listen to at least one new album a week for the next 10 years, in an attempt to stave off old gittishness, but I've not found anything I've really loved yet. I fear I'm stuck in the mid 90's forever.

cyteen · 20/04/2010 22:02

There are worse places to be stuck, AnathemaDevice

LyraSilvertongue · 20/04/2010 22:08

Absolution by Muse. It's always the album I most want to hear when I switch on my iPod.

LyraSilvertongue · 20/04/2010 22:10

Anathema, one new album a week for the next 10 years?! That's some challenge

displayuntilbestbefore · 20/04/2010 22:24

Anathema - there isn't anything worth listening to these days so you have good reason to stick to the music from better days

LyraSilvertongue · 20/04/2010 22:25

Of course there is. There's loads of great music out there. But if you listen to Radio 1 you'll never find it

cyteen · 20/04/2010 22:30

There's loads of good music around.

displayuntilbestbefore · 20/04/2010 22:32

Radio 1? Surely no-one in adulthood actually listens to that drivel?
Lyra - kindly retract the suggestion that Mrs Display would ever stoop so low

But also please give me a few examples of what decent music is out there now as I can't think of any that springs to mind that isn't a rehash of something released aeons ago....

cyteen · 20/04/2010 22:38

Well, I dunno. I tend not to worry about whether music sounds like other stuff, and just try and listen to what it is and like/dislike accordingly.

LyraSilvertongue · 20/04/2010 22:53

Recently (as in the last 6 months) downloaded/bought music: The XX, Band of Skulls, Mumford and Sons, Marina and the Diamonds, Audio Bullys, Plan B, Jamie T, Biffy Clyro, Delphic, Ellie Goulding, Laura Marling, Florence and the Machine, Hot Chip, Kasabian, Lostprophets, Maximo Park, Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Miike Snow, Two Door Cinema Club. Among may others.
I listen to XFM and Absolute Radio.

horseyrider · 22/04/2010 19:58

I am going through a big A-ha renaissance at the moment. I think most of their albums are amazing, but particularly "Foot of the mountain" one of my favourites!

BessieBoots · 22/04/2010 20:00

There's an artist called Schizoid Bass, if you google it you can download the album (legally!) for free. It's difficult to describe, but I feel it's like a massage to my eardrums...

Lizzylou · 22/04/2010 20:07
