Plus have you liked any "popular music" lately?

I suppose my comfort albums would be:

Radiohead- bends/ok computer
Rem- Automatic for the people
Crowded House- Recurring dream
Frank Black & The Catholics: Dog in the sand

Lately I really do love florence and the machine, err thats about it really.

The whole Libertines/Artic monkeys thing baffled me really, didn't get it at all.

dunbreedin · 25/04/2010 07:09

My ones:

Counting Crows - August And Everything After

Dusty Springfield Hits Collection

Green Day - American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown - probably the best music ever made (IMVHO)

Jason Mraz - We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things

Rufus Wainwright - Release the Stars

Myfallenheart · 01/05/2010 17:34

Anything by Darren Hayes and Savage Garden are my comfort albums, plus Feeder's Comfort In Sound album.

As for current albums OneRepublic, The Candle Thieves are two I've bought recently.

BertieBotts · 01/05/2010 17:45

Comfort albums are
Capercaillie - Delirium
Enya - A Day Without Rain
R.E.M. - Automatic for the People
Tracy Chapman - (can't remember which album)
Sting - Mercury Falling

Some more but those spring to mind.

Lately I have been listening to Michael Buble mainly his chart stuff though. The album tracks are ok but I have to be in the mood.

Also Joshua Radin, in fact his album We Were Here from 2007 is wonderful - have got that on spotify at the moment.

Finally I recently discovered on Spotify, Amy Studt's second album, My Paper Made Men. I like the track "She Ran".

I haven't bought anything new recently though, I am trying to replace my CD collection since I left most of it behind when I left XP.

Dunbreeding were we separated at birth? Spookily similar taste, and it's not like it's even a very obvious list!

Well there are albums that I love, but if you are talking real comfort albums, the ones you go back to again and again, mine are:

All of Counting Crows, but spesh 'AAEA',
'Hard Candy' and 'Live in New York'

Tapestry - Carole King
Astral Weeks - Van Morrison (and most of the eary albums)
Back to Black - Amy Winehouse
Hunky Dory and Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie
Innervisions - Stevie Wonder
9 - Damien Rice
Well well said the rocking chair - Dean Friedman
Ella and Louis boxset - Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong
All of Kirsty MacColl's
All of Rufus Wainright's
Blue - Joni Mitchell
Resist - Kosheen
Five Leaves left - Nick Drake
Showbiz kids (greatest hits) - Steely Dan

Ok, list too long now and I still haven't finished.

Pollsworth · 03/05/2010 23:17

ooh TiggyR, I'll have to listen to the albums on your list that I don't know because my list would definitely have to include Innervisions, Hunky Dory and Ziggy Stardust in the top 5, plus Ella and Basie (but love Ella and Louis too)

also (slightly embarrassed to admit) Moon Safari by Air
The Specials
All the songs from the Harold and Maude soundtrack by Cat Stevens
John Martyn's Solid Air
The Beatles' Abbey Road and Let It Be
Red Snapper's Making Bones
Pulp's Different Class
Ian Dury's New Boots and Panties
Gotan Project - La Revancha Del Tango and Lunatico

Don't know any recent stuff though - I mainly listen to classical these days

Pollsworth - don't be embarrassed about Moon Safari - it's a fantastic album - a classic. Can't understand people on here aplogising for Neil Diamond either. He's a genius.

Molesworth · 04/05/2010 16:45

God yes, Neil Diamond's great!

BendyBob · 04/05/2010 16:48

Eels 'Blinking Lights..'

daftpunk · 06/05/2010 16:04
