I need a little help with thinking of a boat themed song

I'm getting married in 3 weeks on an island at a water park
I will be arriving at the island on a little boat, from across the lake, with the rest of the bridal party and need a song to be played as this happens.

I like Stevie Wonder "Sunshine of my Life" (not boat themed but love the song) DP says it's too cheesy and has suggested a boat song such as Otis Reading "Dock of the Bay" (which I quite like) or, as a joke, Celine Dion (boak) Titanic song

Any ideas?

I also need a going down the aisle song, preferably not classical as we're not really into classical music. It'll be outside on the island under a marquee and not at all religious.
I wanted Whitney "I have nothing" but, again, DP says too cheesy.

We have a 'leaving the alter' song which will be The Beatles "All you need is love" and our 1st dance song is going to be Andy Williams "Can't take my eyes off you"

It's so difficult. We have never had 'a song' and we have quite different tastes.

David Gray "sail away with me honey..."

AMumInScotland · 27/08/2009 13:17

A ship called dignity? (can't remember who, probably late 80s...)

Theme tune from "The Love Boat"?

PortBlacksandResident · 27/08/2009 13:19

Katie Melua - If you were a sailboat

or this of course

francagoestohollywood · 27/08/2009 13:23

I'd probably choose the theme of Love boat... but then, I have no shame grin]

Geocentric · 27/08/2009 13:27

Enya - Sail Away?

giantkatestacks · 27/08/2009 13:30

Some random ELC cd of 'row row row your boat' or 'I will have a fishy'...

Not Enya though...anything but that...

I would go for classical even though you dont like it - nything else is going to be a majoy fromage fest...

Fruitbatlings · 27/08/2009 13:31

I'm liking the Love Boat theme idea. I seem to remember DP suggesting it before.

Also like the David Gray one. Keep 'em coming!

What about a 'going down the aisle' song?
Maybe we should just go for the traditional Wedding March.
A friend had it played by a harpist which sounded beautiful - we don't have a harpist though ......

Not Rod Stewarts 'Sailing'

Fruitbatlings · 27/08/2009 13:32

Scatterbrain - I'm not going down with the ship

Fruitbatlings · 27/08/2009 13:34

Also, my Dad is spending a lot of money on this wedding so don't want to be disrespectful to him by choosing anything too silly.
I suggested "Highway to Hell" for leaving the alter as a joke but DP actually seriously wanted it - would be funny at someone else's wedding, but not mine!

I know you said not classical but how about the theme from Onedin line. (you might not be old enough to remember it but your dad will)

bronze · 27/08/2009 13:43

Fruitbatlings · 27/08/2009 13:44

what about 'sailing by' - the one they play just before the shipping forecast

njmomof1 · 27/08/2009 14:19

Sorry - it sprang to mind and i've made myself giggle.......if it were me I'd have the Jaws Theme!!

Not very helpful sorry, just wanted to share.

PortBlacksandResident · 27/08/2009 14:26

For walking up the aisle - i was quite traditional but if i didn't have that i would have either The Hollies - The air that i breath or Dream a little Dream from Mammas and Pappas

both have a nice sentiment but not too cheesy and a nice rhythm to walk to.

Fruitbatlings · 27/08/2009 14:27

hilarious njmomof1, again, at someone else's wedding

Fruitbatlings · 27/08/2009 14:34
