And which do you like?

On the chat thread , someone said they were snobby about people liking songs that are COVERS by x-factor artists, and that they don't realise they are covers. I suppose Alex covering hallelujah (how very dare she??) is an obvious one.

I have always HATED 'she's the one' as COVERED by Robbie Williams- it always made me irrationally that when it was out NO-ONE ever mentioned World Party....

will now ponder which cover I like....

i wonder if i will dream about him tonight now?

MrsMattie · 25/04/2009 21:47

Another horrible one was Simply Red's version of Night Nurse.

Raahh · 26/04/2009 09:32

There are so many bad covers that i had blocked out.
The Sundays cover by Tin Tin Out reminds me that they also murdered What i am by Edie Brickell . Think it was Emma Buntons first solo effort and it was terrible!

And as a depeche mode fan, i have to say i hated the Saturdays doing Just can't get enough, on principle more than anything

Who was it who did under the bridge? Was it All Saints? That was terrible
Madonna's American Pie awful

ONe of my favourite covers of recent years has to be TaTu's version of the Smiths How Soon Is Now. Because all the sad wanky little fanboys who like the unlistenable fucking Smiths were all so outraged over it...

Mind you, I hate all the X-factor type winners' versions of the same 3 songs that just tell you the TV companies' plans for them include the Xmas no 1 then straight back to whatever dolequeue they came from. (It;s always Unchained Melody or Light My Fire or You've Lost That Loving Feeling) - interesting how obvious it is when a TV-=show spin off is intended to turn into a lasting pop act, like Girls ALoud - OK any five acceptably dim and grateful teens could have made up the band, but money was spent on getting some original and good quality pop songs for them to put their names to.

I hate the Wet, Wet, Wet cover of Get by with a Little Help from My Friends...

... a colleague of mine couldn't understand my distaste and I just told him: "I prefer the original." And he said: "Oh, is it a cover version?"

janeite · 26/04/2009 11:10

Solidgold - I'm a huge Smiths fan (and am ignoring your cheek! ) and I really liked that cover. I have obviously developed a more open mind than in my teenage years!

solidgoldshaggingbunnies · 26/04/2009 11:19

Janeite: it was one of the songs I put on my 'labour ward' mixtape, oddly enough.
(OT I know but I had a cracking mixtape for giving birth, full of Polly Harvey, Courtney Love, Patti Smith and assorted fave hard rock tracks...)

janeite · 26/04/2009 11:21

Lol. I listened to Pulp's 'Something Changed' over and over again in the labour ward, post waters breaking but whilst nothing else was happening!

Totally agree with various already mentioned - loath Alexandra's version of Hallelujah, although my favourite version of it is a cover (Jeff Buckley), Lady Sovereign's nick of Just Like Heaven is awful, All Saint's Under The Bridge is dire and misses the whole point, it's a song about heroin addiction FFS, which also makes me think of the BBCs take on Perfect Day (ditto) Always made me LOL, although I didn't hate it.

I'm a huge , huge Depeche Mode fan, have been since the early 80's (I'm old...) and I quite like the Marilyn Manson cover, probably because I quite like him anyway. However I loathe The Saturdays version of Just Can't Get Enough, even if it is for charity (and whoever covered it for that Sun advert.... )

DH really likes Nouvelle Vague, we've got a few albums. They do good covers

Flamestorm · 26/04/2009 11:53

Another vote for Lennox slaughtering Shining Light

pagwatch · 26/04/2009 12:02

I love Arcxtic Monkeys version of Love Machine

I like Snow Patrol and leona Lewis should be slapped with a wet lettuce for her hideous affected version.

Still not as bad as Without You by warble face though....
I have to leave the room when she comes on.

pagwatch · 26/04/2009 12:02

Arcxtic
