This was the best video they ever did.

retiredgoth · 19/07/2008 23:26

the song in question!

...when you lay in awe on the bedroom floor and said "oh oh smother me mother"....

frankiesbestfriend · 19/07/2008 23:27

The video is a bit off putting but what a gorgeous song

frankiesbestfriend · 19/07/2008 23:30

"Do you love me like you used to?"

Yep

Gobbledigook · 19/07/2008 23:40

God I HATED The Smiths - total top yourself stuff. Horrid.

What about this

You can slap me on the patio anytime

weirdly, i never realised how camp the Smiths were at the time but could never understand how people thought they were miserable. it was so obviously (partly) ironic

Saw them live at Margate. it was magic

Sigh!

retiredgoth · 19/07/2008 23:47

...but it WASN"T top yourself stuff!

It was funny, that was the point.....

better?

wessexgirl · 19/07/2008 23:47

Vulgar, yy, never got the camp (at the time) but definitely got the irony.

I used to quite like it that lots of people didn't get it though. It made for a useful filter (especially where potential boyfriend material was concerned).

Ah, the days when shared musical taste was THE number one criterion for a successful relationship .

And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine

I have whole weeks in my life where I simply can't get this chorus out of my head!!! It seems just so perfectly a strange thing to say that it is beautiful... but on day seven of the weeks it won't leave my head I am ready to jump infront of a double decker bus!!! Then breakthough to the strange ending that goes round in my head for a few hours...

There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out...

and I have escaped... Mmmm... I feel like I have exposed the inner teafortwo that only she knows ha ha ha!!!!

frankiesbestfriend · 19/07/2008 23:54

Ah yes, the days when a boy who didn't know his Ned's Atomic Dustbin from his Pavement wouldn't even be considered

frankiesbestfriend · 19/07/2008 23:59

And no, not top yourself stuff.

More don't top yourself cos you're not alone stuff.

Vulgar · 20/07/2008 00:02

Wessexgirl - you are so right. If a guy didn't "get " the Smiths he wouldn't even by noticed on my radar.

also liked that jumble sale chic that looked great on teenage boys, all wiry limbs and holey jumpers.

but if Dh dressd like that now, he would just look wrong

teafortwo · 20/07/2008 00:02

frankiesbestfriend - that sounds close to a Smiths lyric!!! Ha ha ha!!! Just put aaah aaah at the end and you can join the band!

frankiesbestfriend · 20/07/2008 00:06

Lol at thought of masculine dh dressed in skinny jeans and NHS specs, as my then perfect idea of a boyfriend would have been.

Vulgar · 20/07/2008 00:07

don't forget the granny beads

frankiesbestfriend · 20/07/2008 00:08

Taking dh shopping tommorrow in Oxfam
