Leonard Cohen. He is actually God

I went to see him last night at the O2 and, oh sweet Jesus, he was absolutely jaw-droppingly fantastic. Just so good it's untrue. I've been to quite a few gigs lately with many much more current bands (Vampire Weekend, Santogold, Nouvelle Vague) who were brilliant in their own way, but spending three hours listening to him talk and sing just blows anything else away.

Ohh you having a baby too then? what a coincidence!!

jette · 18/07/2008 16:06

I'm due on the 15th - it is a strange coincidence - I wonder if anything can be inferred?!

iMum · 18/07/2008 16:08

Well I'm due on the 29th but will be induced at 36 weeks so about the 1stish of November (these things can take a few days to get going so who know when baby will arrive!)

Is this your first?

jette · 18/07/2008 16:12

This is my first - I have no idea what's going on! I'm glad he's heard Leonard Cohen though!

iMum · 18/07/2008 16:13

A he!?! me too, my 3rd ds as well!!!
He was squirming around alot too last night, obviously grooving along to ole laughing len.

jette · 18/07/2008 16:20

3rd!! Wow! I'm glad youre still going to gigs - I've been given the impression that after children one can't be bothered doing much of anything! I'm met with smug smiles if I protest!
My mum introduced me to LC - it made me realise that my sensible, practical, plain-talking Mama had a senstive romantic side!

iMum · 18/07/2008 16:24

Well we dont get out a whole lot but every now and then, saw the foo fighter there a few months ago and the automatic locally, plus some local bands too. Its good to get out tho dh and I need it, we took a day trip to Paris in the spring and it was fantastic made us realise how much we still like/fancy and love each other still.

Mind you tho, not sure I could cope with a gig 1 week after giving birth!!!

hi imum. Your thread is much busier than the one I started so thought I'd come over here instead. We too were in a company box - there were 6 of us!!! How sad is that? Nobody else wanted the other seats. Shocking!! Bit made it all the better for us really as I could seriously feel like he was singing to just me. And as for "A thousand kisses deep"? Well, whatc an we say that hasn't been said before? The man is a legend isn't he? And I loved his little bits of humour last night.

iMum · 18/07/2008 18:16

Hi Not actually my thread (the one I started also got very few replies) But it was a fab night-we were in box 303 and unfortunately had very noisy people in the box next to us-but even they had to quieten down when he began a thousand kisses. there were very few of us in our box to, about 12, such a shame as the man is a legend.

ahhhh ive got so long marianne going around and around.

mckenzie · 18/07/2008 18:53

We were 400 and somethhing (448 I think) and right close to the stage. We saw Springsteen from there last year and I felt like if i stretched just a tad further I would have been able to touch him .

I keep singing too but for me it's Suzanne (but off key unfortunately!)

iMum · 18/07/2008 18:55

Ohh you must have been opposite us then as we were right by the stage with the stage on our left as we looked at it-it was fab!!!!

Tinker · 19/07/2008 00:22

Isn't he just. Saw him last month in Manchester; I'm still thinking about it.

ScummyMummy · 19/07/2008 00:47

OOOOOOOOOOOH going to see him at big chill in a couple of weeks and absolutely cannot wait.

Tinker · 19/07/2008 00:49

Oh, you are in for such a treat.

ScummyMummy · 19/07/2008 00:51

You should come too!

ScummyMummy · 19/07/2008 00:53

v pissed. Can you believe that we still chat online after all these years? i love you.

Tinker · 19/07/2008 00:55

We actually had tickets for 02 as well... He's doing more dates in November but looked at teh venues and none nearby. I have to say, not wanting to sound smug, but Manchester was a pretty small venue which I think suited him very well. Makes me feel tearful just thinking about him because this is likely to be his last tour.

Where is teh big chill thing?

Tinker · 19/07/2008 00:56

Ha ha. I love you to. Nearly 7 years

Tinker · 19/07/2008 00:56

too

Kazzia · 19/07/2008 01:00

Suzanne & so long marianne - the thought of all those oranges ..................

ScummyMummy · 19/07/2008 01:01

Sort of near Wales, I think. Going with my lovely sister (lives in Cardiff) and b and boys. Really looking forward to it as my mum loved leonard c and hence I grew up listening to him. Mum and I once had fab row about who was better, him or bob dylan (i thought bob she said len).

7 years?

Tinker · 19/07/2008 01:03

The answer is both of course.

ScummyMummy · 19/07/2008 01:05

well, in my maturity I see that is so. It was practically child abuse for her to force me into taking sides really.

Tinker · 19/07/2008 01:11

She sounds as though she was cool though.

Tinker · 19/07/2008 01:13

Am now going to bed. I'll be thinking of both Bob and Len now.
