What is this bloody song?

There was this song that was all over the radio when I was 9/10 and I can't for the life of me remember what it was called! They were similar to that band that sang Steal My Sunshine and that Every Morning song, which were around the same time and there were a few similar bands at that time. It had this very haunting keyboard-type riff and I can't remember any lyrics because they went so fast, more like a rap, and I wasnt really paying attention to words at that age. Think they were American. But it was absolutely all over the place for a short time around late 1999/early 2000.

No, I know that song well. But similar type of band, like American californian. Also All Star is a happy and upbeat song (despite the lyrics). This song was quite haunting and as I said had this strange keyboard riff.

Butterfly? By crazytown? That was more like 2001 though.

No, it was more like....erm, I can only describe it as a kind of "stoner" song. It had this weird, very eerie keyboard/electronic riff all through the song.

No definately not LP. I used to listen to then a lot. These were more like a one hit wonder thing.

Maybe Drinking in LA by Bran Van 3000? Out at similar time, has a rap vocal and kind of strange melody?

I know! I thought it was a weird song at the time but it randomly popped into my head the other day. But I seem to remember it got played all the time on R1 because I remember hearing it on the breakfast show on the way go school at lot. Think they played it a lot on Galaxy radio before it went full on chav (showing my age).

I came to say this, exactly the song that came to mind given OP's description!

MyOtherProfile · 08/04/2026 16:55

That's so funny, I was trying to remember this song recently too. I didn't come up with the title until I read this thread.

Latebloomer121 · 08/04/2026 16:57

Also very odd how someone mentioned Butterfly by Crazy Town- very similar "haunting" melody and had a similar "feel" (although awful lyrics!)
