What 90s vinyl albums do I need?

I was 17 in 1997 and had hundreds of albums at sixth form / uni. I sold them all as I went digital and am now rebuilding my collection on vinyl. I loved The Longpigs and Mansun. My favourite bands of all time are The Beatles, Muse and The Killers. I want to buy 5/6 albums over the next few week. What do I need that I haven’t thought of? I have What’s the Story, Going for Gold by Shed Seven, Franz Ferdinand, to give an idea of what I like…

thank you!

I have Green Day's Dookie in green vinyl 😍 tbh I've not got a record player but I just love owning it!

I was absolutely shocked at the prices of LPs in HMV recently - £25 or 3 for £60. I mean, wtf?

I need to hit up charity shops and good old fashioned independent record shops if I want to follow OP in buying songs of my youth.

£25??? Most of mine cost me £6.99 originally 😆

It’s the most obvious choice of all but it’s not been mentioned yet and it really is brilliant:

Oasis – Definitely Maybe

Has no-one said Blues Lines yet? That record renewed my interest in music back then. A landmark.

SparkleFly · 23/01/2026 07:02

You're going to have such a task shortlisting all of these brilliant suggestions. I've got another to add - Stoosh, Skunk Anansie

I said it upthread 😀

They're my favourite band, bit outing but I walked down the aisle to Unfinished Sympathy

Am also going to make a list of the suggestions and beef up my own collection! Some excellent suggestions here.

Again outing but at my wedding our exit song was "your love gets sweeter every day" ❤️

BertieWoostersChaps · 23/01/2026 16:43

My era!
Don’t have any particular suggestions that haven’t already been mentioned, although I did wonder about the Trainspotting and Pulp Fiction soundtracks, I thought I was so cool listening to them on my discman.

Great shout, these absolutely define that era.
