What 90s vinyl albums do I need?

I was 17 in 1997 and had hundreds of albums at sixth form / uni. I sold them all as I went digital and am now rebuilding my collection on vinyl. I loved The Longpigs and Mansun. My favourite bands of all time are The Beatles, Muse and The Killers. I want to buy 5/6 albums over the next few week. What do I need that I haven’t thought of? I have What’s the Story, Going for Gold by Shed Seven, Franz Ferdinand, to give an idea of what I like…

thank you!

Just to throw a wildcard in there, Mark Lanegan -Field Songs. Absolutely stunning (as is all his work, to be fair).

Nick Cave - The Boatman's Call

Breeders - Last Splash

Björk - Debut

@Knittedanimalabsolutely brilliant album. I knew every word. I imagined Evan Dando would be my husband with his long hair. To be fair, having just googled him, I probably still do.

🤭 I look forward to the wedding invite!

Tricky - Maxinquaye. I heard he’d described it as a coffee table album and I was gutted because I think it’s absolutely amazing.

agathamum24 · 22/01/2026 06:54

Absolution - Muse

My era!
Don’t have any particular suggestions that haven’t already been mentioned, although I did wonder about the Trainspotting and Pulp Fiction soundtracks, I thought I was so cool listening to them on my discman.

evilharpy · 22/01/2026 07:03

So many good suggestions, added a few to my shopping list.

Don't think anyone has said Prodigy - Fat of the Land yet.

@BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop don't forget Reservoir Dogs

Thank you so much! Fabulous to wake up to such a great list. Added The Bends and OK Computer. Had forgotten about the Levellers! Yes to Ocean Colour Scene too.

I loved the music and was totally convinced ED would bring the band to play at my school if i wrote him enough letters. I think he married a fan at one point....shame he turned out to be a bit of a prick. He was so pretty 😍

Maybe you've been brainwashed too by The New Radicals.

Every track is superb

Eels: Beautiful Freak

I heard Susan’s House on the radio the other day- it was almost painfully nostalgic.
Eels, Daisies Of The Galaxy
Gomez, Bring It On

Speckledy · 22/01/2026 21:06

Most of the ones I'd have said have already been mentioned but what about
Teenage Fanclub - Bandwagonesque

MiddlingMarch · 22/01/2026 21:11

Teenage Fanclub - Grand Prix
Super Furry Animals - fuzzy logic and radiator
Supergrass - i should coco
The Supernaturals - a tune a day
Travis - Good feeling

Also a load of Scottish indie sounds best on vinyl (I have 7" singles rather than albums) like Urusei Yatsura, Mogwai, The Delgados, Bis, Arab Strap.

MiddlingMarch · 22/01/2026 21:13

Finlay Quaye - Maverick a Strike

Am also going to make a list of the suggestions and beef up my own collection! Some excellent suggestions here.
