YUM. Just heard a teeny tiny snippet and had forgotten just how much I loved/love them.

I also have a EBTG tune to thank for getting me and DP together, in a way.

I think we must all be women of a certain age

My DH has never 'got them' at all, I have all of their stuff on cd gathering dust - tomorrow I'm going to load it all into the car and sing loudly and mortify my children

yogabird · 06/06/2008 23:00

try this, I hadn't heard it before EBTG

SNoraWotzThat · 06/06/2008 23:02

MarmadukeScarlet - lol - just what I was thinking except all mine are on old cassettes.

Heathcliffscathy · 06/06/2008 23:03

SUCK!

Heathcliffscathy · 06/06/2008 23:03

MarmadukeScarlet · 06/06/2008 23:03

I got dat one - not the live version though.

cornsilk · 06/06/2008 23:05

I liked them but can't believe Tracey Thorne was in the Marine Girls! They were so out of tune!

SNoraWotzThat · 06/06/2008 23:05

Its lovely yoga bird, thanks for posting. I am enjoying this so much. Thanks Thomcat for starting it.

Their music was a real turning point in my life and listening to it is bitter sweet, but lovely.

MarmadukeScarlet · 06/06/2008 23:06

methinks sophable must be a whippersnapper, not of the correct vintage to appreciate the genius.

snora default positon in this case is to find an ancient walkman, turn it up loud and sing tunelessly

helenelisabeth · 06/06/2008 23:17

I Miss You reminds me of the twat I went to live in Tenerife for - he jibbed me the day I got there - fucker!

Heathcliffscathy · 06/06/2008 23:21

i'm 36 tomorrow. so definitely no whippersnapper.

FloridaKbear · 06/06/2008 23:21

COME ON HOOOOO ' OOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMME

Pleaaaaaaassssssssssseeeeee

MarmadukeScarlet · 06/06/2008 23:37

The night I heard Caruso sing gives me goosbumps everytime.

I love this thread, also MN music discussions in general, recently I was inspired to get all my old Pink Floyd stuff out to horrify the DC in the car with.

Sophable, a very happy birthday for tomorrow (despite the dodge music tastes)

DaDaDa · 06/06/2008 23:38

Tracey Thorn's ancient solo album 'A Distant Shore' is very lovely too. More tuneful than Marine Girls but more sparse than EBTG.

I bought DW a copy of 'Come On Home' from a charity shop, but inside the sleeve was 'I Love You Just The Way You Are' by Billy Joel. Was OK though, we just had a smooch to that instead.

Califrau - apron strings used to make me cry all the time when I was having fertility treatment

Mind you not as much as singing "I'll stand by you" (Pretenders) to DS at visiting time in the orphanage. Mind you that still makes me well up...

I do feel relieved that some of you like the earlier stuff - I'm not as keen on them once Ben had discovered synthesizers

Kewcumber · 06/06/2008 23:45

Good lord DaDa da you must be as ancuent as me if you know ye olde Tracy thorne!

MargaretMountford · 06/06/2008 23:46

Franny - I read Ben's book too - v good - really like EBTG

southeastastra · 06/06/2008 23:47

i liked ten thousand maniacs more

DaDaDa · 06/06/2008 23:49

Yeah, the dancey stuff is, lets be honest here, bollocks. But hey, they reinvented themselves and made a few bob out of it. Good luck to them.

Not ancient Kew, just sad indie completist. I do think we got slightly the better deal with the Billy Joel single though!

Kewcumber · 06/06/2008 23:54

ten thousand maniacs (swoon) from my angst ridden young woman phase

FloridaKbear · 06/06/2008 23:55

MAUREEEEEEEN, you're back. How was your wild night out? . Could've been wilder!! .

Baby come hooooommme
