YUM. Just heard a teeny tiny snippet and had forgotten just how much I loved/love them.

I also have a EBTG tune to thank for getting me and DP together, in a way.

When you break up, it is time to get pissed.

Another break up song, Aimee Mann 'That's just what you are'.

Cadbury · 06/06/2008 22:09

I wore my 'Eden' cassette out with so much listening. Wonderful album. It is the music that reminds me most of being in the sixth form, of revising for A levels, visiting universities - that whole 'big new world' feeling, and my first big failed romance with an older, rather arrogant bloke
(cue the lyrics form the wonderful 'bittersweet'
"she's such a sweet girl, free of the taints of this world
think that's a compliment, don't be so full of sentiment
why you worship sweetness, what virtue's there in weakness
being pushed about is nothing much to shout about I know" That was me Tracey was talking about, you know....)

Thanks fran, I'd love to borrow it, if you are sure you don't mind.

FrannyandZucchini · 06/06/2008 22:21

I am sure those two things won't be too challenging, at all

womblingalong · 06/06/2008 22:22

maidamess · 06/06/2008 22:23

Whats the song Benn Watts sings where it says 'I've thought of having children but I've gone and changed my mind. Its hard enough to watch the news let alone explain it to a child'

Is it something to do with Elvis?

SNoraWotzThat · 06/06/2008 22:24

SNoraWotzThat · 06/06/2008 22:25

maidamess · 06/06/2008 22:26

Oh thankyou. I love that song.

FrannyandZucchini · 06/06/2008 22:26

'he's almost as good as presley and if I, could only do one thing'

ooh LOVELY

yogabird · 06/06/2008 22:27

you must all know of course that they named themselves after a furniture shop in Hull called Turners with the strap line 'Everything but the Girl'. Loved them since discovering them in 6th form on my first ski trip where Eden was played over and over. Have spent many many nights with a wine box and marlboro lights listening and talking til the dawn - sighs - memories. Oh when i was young, i was another woman!

gladbag · 06/06/2008 22:29

yogabird - you and I are very much of the same ilk

SNoraWotzThat · 06/06/2008 22:29

He's almost as good as Presley.........

If I only do one thing
I'll sing songs to my father
I'll sings songs to my child
its time to hold your loved ones.......

northernsoul · 06/06/2008 22:31

Oh i love them. Their cover of The Only Living Boy In New York is one of the best covers i've heard. I think i would even go as far to say it is better than the original. Aah makes me melt

yogabird · 06/06/2008 22:35

gladbag, am loving this thread along with the youtube accompanying it. you reminded me of me at 17 that's what got me into this again. Remember, 'everything's like christmas day without you - it's cold and there's nothing to do' who as a teenager didn't feel a little of that at least once? I need to get onto itunes and replace that lot of old tapes that i hadn't thought of for so long.
I was at college in Hull, where they met i think. We also had the Housemartins - more memories! Ok it's not got the credibility of Madchester but we had a good time

Whizzz · 06/06/2008 22:42

that caruso song is lovely - never heard it before - thankyou! That vid looks like my holiday pics !
