Songs about being a parent?

What are you favourite tracks about becoming a parent? Currently loving “For You” by Laura Marling and “Milk Breath” by Orlando Weeks but wondered about others favourites?!

(All genres though recognise those two are quite similar!)

Oh! This was on my birthing playlist (water birth!) - London had a lot of songs about parent / child relationships (though this is gentler than the one about his son...)

Also ones which make me a bit teary:
"Dear Theodosia" from Hamilton - love the Sara Bareilles version
Slipping Through My Fingers
Look Mummy, No Hands
Song for Our Daughter by Laura Marling

Lovely thread! When I'm not (meant to be...) working I might have a shot at putting these on a Spotify playlist, if I do I'll share the link.

I always like to think My Little Corner of the World, the final verse 'We always knew we'd find someone like you'... sounds like the song has shifted from being sung from a partner to a child.

I also adore What am I Without You by Elbow and it makes me think of parenting - I find it quite hard to listen to without crying and thinking about my DC!

The universe keeps singing this song
Your eyes are diabolical blue, ooh
I've been watching you walk on the water lately
My arms outstretched when you do
What am I?
What am I on the earth for
If not to put you to bed?
If not to remind you to eat sometimes, if...
If not to cradle your head?

I don’t Know if anyone else has mentioned it up thread but Nick Cope Grow gets me every time!!

I wish he would cover it with someone more famous to bring it to a wider audience

I remember my mum playing a song called 'Kid' by The Pretenders. It moved me. Chrissy Hynde has an amazing voice, and her lyrics hit.

"Kid, my only kid
You look so small, you've gone so quiet
I know you know what I'm about
I won't deny it
But you forget
You don't understand
You've turned your head
You've dropped my hand
All my sorrow
All my blues
All my sorrow..."

Watching this thread as I'm struggling to think of any contemporary songs about motherhood or parenting.

That would be really nice. Please do drop a link.

I've just remembered another golden oldie - David Bowie's 'Kooks'

"We bought a lot of things to keep you warm and dry
A funny old crib on which the paint won't dry
I bought you a pair of shoes, a trumpet you can blow
And a book of rules on what to say to people
When they pick on you
'Cause if you stay with us, you're gonna be pretty kooky too..."

Billy Joel - Lullaby
Peter Paul & Mary - for Bobbie
Lauryn Hill - to Zion

I love Zion - I gave birth to my ds when the album was out and played it loads.

Wires by Athlete is another one - written about when his baby was in ICU.
