What are you favourite tracks about becoming a parent? Currently loving “For You” by Laura Marling and “Milk Breath” by Orlando Weeks but wondered about others favourites?!

(All genres though recognise those two are quite similar!)

White Wine In The Sun by Tim Minchin

About children growing up and being independant and families at Christmas. If it catches me off guard I bawl my eyes out.

It's been recommended on many previous threads by various posters and I would recommend it to everyone - whether you are a parent or thinking of your own parents.

It's a gorgeous song, persevere with it as it switches part way through and has an emotional sucker punch!

Edited for typo!

It wasn’t written about a parent/child relationship but I listen to Elton John- your song and think of my little girl. How wonderful life is while you’re in the world.

Edited to add another one, I think it's written for a romantic love interest but I love it anyway:

Superwoman by Alicia Keys. I put it on when I'm having a bad day.

"Everywhere I'm turning, nothing seems complete
I stand up and I'm searching for the better part of me
I hang my head from sorrow, slave to humanity
I wear it on my shoulders, gotta find strength in me
(Why is that?)

[Chorus]
'Cause I am a Superwoman
Yes, I am (Yes, she is)
Still when I'm a mess
I still put on a vest
With an "S" on my chest
Oh, yes, I'm a Superwoman"

HernameisRio80s · 16/08/2024 21:34

And another one... Precious, Depeche Mode.

The Luckiest by Ben Folds Five
Pretty sure it was written as a (romantic) love song, but I used to listen to it when DS was in the womb and now we listen to it together at bedtime.

"And where was I before the day that I first saw your lovely face?
Now I see it everyday
And I know
That I am, I am, I am
The luckiest"

The Big Moon have a whole album about having a baby (I mean, not the actual giving birth part!) called Here is Everything. It's really good.
