Hidden songs on 90s albums

I've just streamed Alanis Morrisette's Jagged Little Pill album for the first time for ages. I loved it mid 90s. I forgot about the hidden song at the end. I remember having to wait ages for it to finally come on every time I listened to the album.

I'm now listening to Life Thru a Lens by Robbie Williams, purely because of the hidden poem at the end.

2 things

  1. it's sad that streaming has taken away that wait, or excitement, about hidden songs.

  2. what other albums do you know of that had hidden bits tacked on the end, well after the last song had finished?

Travis - The Man Who. 2 or 3 minutes after the last listed song.

I had never known about this, only I recently got into a band that were biggest in the 90s, and set about buying all their albums. I puzzled over why on one album, among all the 2 or 3 minute songs, the last track was 23 minutes long!! 😕 DH had to explain it to me!

There’s a beautiful hidden song at the end of Twelve stops and home by The Feeling (not 90s I know)

1977 by Ash had a bit of the band chatting & a hidden song but you had to wait around half an hour for it iirc. I just left my cd on & was really surprised the first time I heard it. I think someone says "My knob is so sore!" But not certain!

One of the Crowded House albums (I think it’s Woodface) has a hidden snippet after the last track.

Always fun to drift off listening to an album only to be woken with a start by the hidden track. There's a pretty shouty one at the end of Nevermind by Nirvana that got me a few times.

Yes! And such a brilliant song as well.

Greenday has a hidden track at the end of Dookie. “All by myself”. Very “un” greendayish compared to thé rest of the album!

PinkBuffalo · 20/08/2023 20:09

Chronicles of life and death by good Charlotte had a hidden song at the end

i only find out cos I was cooking and did no turn the cd player off!

Wozzzzzaa · 20/08/2023 20:15

Yes, the Ash one was on the 1977 album and it was called Sick Party, it had audio of them pretending to puke by spitting water into buckets 😆

The greenday song was actually a song that Kermit sings to Miss Piggy in the Muppets.

I remember a great hidden song on a Papa Roach album, and I think there was one on Damian Rice's O album too (though I could be wrong).

The Charles Manson track on The Spaghetti Incident. Not really worth listening to 😆Still got my cassette somewhere.

Was just about to say this!

iminvestednow · 20/08/2023 20:25

I was all by myself…….No one was looking… I was thinking of you…

Oh i absolutely loved that track!

Firstinlastout · 20/08/2023 20:46

Although it sounds like Kermit singing All by myself, its actually nothing to do with the muppets. The song was written and sang by the drummer.

LunaNorth · 20/08/2023 20:49

I think there might be one at the end of Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos…might be wrong.

Guacamole!

LunaNorth · 20/08/2023 20:51

Ignore that.

It’s because when I was young and poor I had it bootlegged on a C90 and it missed the last track off, so I got a surprise when I bought it on CD!

TheOutlaws · 20/08/2023 20:51

Track 90 on Second Coming (Stone Roses) - The Foz??

Sick Party by Ash is the most notorious I think!

BrutusMcDogface · 20/08/2023 20:52

The first time I heard that Alanis morisette hidden track, I shat myself. Had been listening to it pretty loud (home alone at the time) on my parents’ big speakers! Then she takes a big breath before she starts singing. For a split second, I actually thought someone was in the house! 😂

SulisMinerva · 20/08/2023 20:52

Way Beyond Blue by Catatonia had a hidden song. From memory, it was completely in Welsh.

somersaultinsand · 20/08/2023 20:54

Ben Folds Five - whatever and ever amen album has a shouty/sweary hidden "track" that's given me a fright a few times when I've left it running.

CrazyChooks · 20/08/2023 20:59

I didn’t know what guacamole until I was in my mid 20s. Had heard that secret track on 1977 so many times but just thought it was a made up word!
Took me ages to actually try the stuff because it made me think of being sick!

DailyMaui · 20/08/2023 21:04

There's one on Mansun's Attack of the Grey Lantern - called An Open Letter to the Lyrical Trainspotter.

I still love that album

I LOVE that song on the Travis album!
