Hidden songs on 90s albums

I've just streamed Alanis Morrisette's Jagged Little Pill album for the first time for ages. I loved it mid 90s. I forgot about the hidden song at the end. I remember having to wait ages for it to finally come on every time I listened to the album.

I'm now listening to Life Thru a Lens by Robbie Williams, purely because of the hidden poem at the end.

2 things

  1. it's sad that streaming has taken away that wait, or excitement, about hidden songs.

  2. what other albums do you know of that had hidden bits tacked on the end, well after the last song had finished?

How did I not know about most of these?! 😳 I feel like I've missed out for the last 30 years now!

A lot of them did didn't they, the band "crazy town" had a hilarious hidden track it was this just American guy ranting and raving maybe drunk or high I'm not sure but me and my friend used to laugh a lot at it!

HoggyDunlop · 20/08/2023 22:09

New Found Glory had one that was sooo creepy, just weird noises and a voice whispering "someone's in your house"

Scared the crap out of me many times after falling asleep with my headphones on

SlightlyJaded · 20/08/2023 22:10

Radiohead Kid A on the vinyl version. Not sure if it's on all versions.

There're a few on Manic Street Preachers albums. My favourite is the cover of Lennon's Working Class Hero at the end of Send Away The Tigers.

SlightlyJaded · 20/08/2023 22:12

And not 90s - but Her Majesty on the end of Beatles, Abbey Road

Isn't that just a normal final track? It's not hidden as far as I was aware.

SlightlyJaded · 20/08/2023 22:16

It's not listed on the track listings, there is a longer than normal gap before it starts and I believe it's considered one of the earliest examples of a hidden track.

Might be wrong, but think I am right.

Travis - The Man Who. 2 or 3 minutes after the last listed song.

Ooh yes the angry song after Slide Show.

FallenPetalsSummerDew · 20/08/2023 22:19

Placebo has a good one at the end of either the first album or 'without you I'm nothing' - can't remember which it's on!

Devilsmommy · 20/08/2023 22:26

Nirvana's nevermind had a hidden track but can't for the life of me remember the name of it

PostageAndPackaging · 20/08/2023 22:30

Forget the album name but the band was Incubus

The hidden track is........ Bizarre. We had the album on a week ago for the first time in decades and forgot about the hidden track, we shat ourselves when it started, but what a bunch of hilarious memories 🤣

I think there was one on “Swing when you’re winning “ Robbie Williams.

There’s a beautiful hidden song at the end of Twelve stops and home by The Feeling (not 90s I know)

Same with one of scouting for girls albums, the track about James Bond goes silent and then a totally different track kicks in

SweetLorele · 20/08/2023 23:42

There's one at the end of The Sun is Often Out - Longpigs, called Sleep. I seem to recollect their being one at the end of Kenickie's first album too. This thread is making me nostalgic for the 90s.

Mojodojocasahaus · 20/08/2023 23:47

The one on 1977 is revolting, chatting and throwing up

Kula Shaker K has a hidden chant at the end from memory

Traxz · 20/08/2023 23:49

I always hated the "hidden song" what a load of self indulgent rubbish

BageyeAtTheWheel · 20/08/2023 23:56

Not 90s but surely "Running the World" by Jarvis Cocker is one of the best of the genre.

There's one on a Goldie Lookin Chain album where you have to rewind from track 1 to listen, I think that wasn't unheard of either but can't remember any other examples.

SortOfMaybe · 21/08/2023 00:06

There was one at the end of both of Kenickie's At The Club and Get In. The one at the end of Get In sets my teeth on edge, it's got this horrible repetitive music, guaranteed to make you wake with a scream if you fall asleep.

I'd forgotten about the Ash one until someone mentioned puking!

Globe22 · 21/08/2023 06:44

Dido has one on the end of life is to rent called the sun I think.

I think there’s still a big market for CDs or some tangible form of buying music. My kids still want CD players and CDs. I’m hoping they are revived.

thedevilinablackdress · 21/08/2023 07:40

On a related note, do you remember 'secret messages ' scratched into the runout groove of vinyl records?

EbiRaisukaree · 21/08/2023 07:46

There’s a hidden track at the end of The Wonder Stuff’s Construction for the Modern Idiot, which I think came out in 1993.

Kenickie's one went 'do you care... To accompany me... To the milk bar?!' It was excellent @SweetLorele

Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo are selling CASETTES, not even just vinyl and CDs! I think there's a growing market for collectors and super fans as artists realise streaming doesn't make them much money at all, i don't think they'll sadly ever make a full comeback. I have hundreds of CDs, used to love browsing the shops and deciding what to get, or waiting until release day and invariably meeting other fans in the queue.
