Love these songs, even though you can't find them on 80s compilation CDs or they get very rarely played on radio. Mine are:
'chocolate girl ' and 'ship called dignity' by Deacon Blue. I still dont entirely get what they're about though.
'beds are burning ' by midnight oil.
'sign of the times' by Belle stars. Prince version is great too
Sowing the seeds of love

I'm sure I'll remember more 😂

@TallerThanAverage - ooh, Rebel MC, memories of my first ever holiday without my parents!
Me and my best friend had a blast! I think she's on here, I wonder if she'll see this!

AlwaysTheGoodGirl · 09/05/2023 12:06

Oh lord please don't start me on this, I'll be here for weeks! I flippen love the more unusual 80s ❤I listen to an 80s show on the radio every sunday when I run. I could not do it without it. And thankfully he doesn't just play all the usual popular stuff.

Here goes.

Incantation - Cacharpaya
Bardo - One Step Further
Hue & Cry - Labour Of Love (also Looking For Linda)
Rosie Vela - Magic Smile (you are the only other person in the world who knows this song, @woodhill !)
PhD - I Won't Let You Down (@Iloveabaconbutty high five!)
Bucks Fizz - New Beginning (Mamba Seyra)
China Crisis - Wishful Thinking
OMD - Genetic Engineering
Shakatak - all of them
Big Country - Wonderland
Red Box - Lean On Me
Tears For Fears - Head Over Heels
Mike Oldfield and Maggie Reilly - To France

I might be back with more..... What a great thread! 😁

@TallerThanAverage
I thought he looked gorgeous in that video😄
He had so many great songs Hot in the City, Eyes without a Face and Dancing with Myself.
When I hear them now, it always makes me feel a bit sad.

Great songs on this thread!

Did anyone see Frankie Goes To Hollywood live on the Eurovision concert yesterday? They were amazing!

On NYE in 1989 there was a whole evening of 80s music on BBC2. I had it all recorded on VHS and it was always my "make me happy" go-to watch. Loads of the songs have been mentioned here. The tape has not survived a few house moves - really wish I had got it transferred to DVD!

Fabulous song love it.

TheresOnlyOneWayOfLife · 09/05/2023 20:54

Loving an 80's thread.
Here's mine off the top of my head, probably more to follow as I remember...

Deacon Blue - Loaded
Aztec Camera - Working in a Goldmine
Dan Reed Network - Stronger than Steel
Whitesnake - Still of the Night

I always found Johnny Logan’s excessive lip licking when he sings very distracting.

Floogal · 25/10/2023 12:34

Joe le taxi by By Vanessa Paradis
Lambada by Koama
Yeke yeke by Mory Kante

Mind Of A Toy - Visage
Night Games - Graham Bonnet
No Memories - Scarlet Fantastic
Reward - Teardrop Explodes
Wrap Up The Rockets - The Freshies
Through The Barricades - Spandau Ballet

Abhannmor · 02/11/2023 17:34

Evangeline - The Icicle Works

moggerhanger · 02/11/2023 17:37

Fascinating Rhythm by Bass-o-matic and Let's Go All The Way by Sly Fox. Just because they're so toe-tapping.

moggerhanger · 02/11/2023 17:39

Oh, and Dancing With Tears In My Eyes by Ultravox. Especially given that it's about an imminent nuclear strike, which was a bit of a preoccupation in the 80s.

Eighties by Killing Joke.

Vansbrowneyedgirl · 02/11/2023 17:45

Mental as anything- live it up!

Talk Talk - it’s my life

Depeche Mode - Enjoy the silence

This was late 80s, was the year I finished uni and moved to London, so was v memorable to me! Soul to Soul, Back to Life.

A happy face, a thumpin’ bass, for a lovin’ race,

spamandeggs · 08/03/2024 19:56

I'm very late to the party but Psychodelic Furs - Love My Way
Absolutely love that one and he really reminds of David Bowie in this one :)

Floogal · 08/03/2024 20:32

Something's got a hold of my heart by Gene Pitney and Marc Almond

See the day by Dee C Lee
