NCO Auditions 2023

Hello, Has anyone heard back on their NCO 2023 Auditions yet? I think they said sometime in October but I am being asked daily whether there is any news yet… Thank you!

Ds (13) has an offer for bass, has been a member before. Went for pieces played well at the minimum end of the requirements with good tone etc, partly as it was a bit of a rush with the new audition deadline this time. Also second study and clashes but he isn't eligible for things like nyo inspire so think he will accept

PS Surreyfree, yes you need to audition each year. But she has a year of membership to enjoy first before you need to worry about that!

Has anyone heard for u13s? We've had nothing - no rejection but no offer either! A bit worried because after submitting the audition we had an email from NCO admin asking for feedback on why our child wasn't applying for a further year - all sorted out and they confirmed they had received the audition but now I'm wondering!

Sorry, I am complete newb to all this. One of DDs friends would like to try out next year (projects as she is 9 as well) and has asked me roughly how many places are offered in the trumpet section. I have no idea. Would anyone know please? Thank you

@SurreyFree I would suggest looking on the Fb/Intsta pages for the pics of last years orchestras, then you can get an idea of how many per section.

New to this and wanted to say hi. My DD has just got into U12s on Harp, all a bit of a shock as she decided to audition at the last minute. We’re also going to apply for a bursary. She’s also a member of NYC Girls’ Choir and wondering how to fit it all in.
Congratulations to everyone who has had good news this past week and hope to see some of you in April.

Congrats to her @Sopranomum ! Dd2 also in nyc, which she loves. In the end we worked out she couldn’t do both and everything else she loves so she’s gone for the choir this year. But she’s older- yours has much more time!

Ds is also in nycgb and will miss the RAH thing for Nco - but it's his last chance to do Nco so he chose main orch as can be in nyc for longer.

Yes I understand that. DD couldn’t do RAH anyway this year because she’s also a Cathedral Chorister and has too many things on in the run up to Easter, so she will do Easter NCO and summer NCO and NYC. She would definitely consider herself a first study singer, but is super excited to be joining NCO!

@Sopranomum yes Ds is a first study singer too and that's the system we have decided on - the nycgb requirement of only one course is very useful.

Results have come in this afternoon for under 12’s not sure for projects I think they maybe later on.
DD has got in for under 12’s violin yay now just hoping we get a bit of help with the bursary! My DS auditioned for projects haven’t got results yet fingers crossed

We auditioned this year. Do you know how many violinists they take for projects and what grade 'ish' got in?

Hi lolo - DD has done projects, lots of little violins! 4 orchestras x around 30 violins each I guess. Maybe grade 4ish? They're more interested in quality of playing than difficulty of what you play.
Mine applied to U12 this year but would happily do projects again if she doesn't get in, she had a really good time.

Good luck :) It's a long wait, DD is better at forgetting about it than I am - bit like exam results really.

Thank you- I am hoping DC makes the standard for projects. We played a grade 6 piece on Violin and a lower piece- hopefully well! He's 10

When did projects get announced last year? Feels like SUCH a long wait.

Looks like we were all around 17th-18th October up thread. Though they did announce a deadline for late auditions of Friday 13th, I hope that doesn't mean they're running later. Happily DD is not invested and has forgotten about it as far as I can tell. I haven't though, would quite like to know now whether to decline other things or not!

I think they said end of October maybe beginning of November. It’s always a long wait from sending in the auditions.

Last year we heard on 20/10. They seem to have opened up later auditions for certain instruments with a deadline of 11/10 so am guessing sometime after that 🤞
