What "well-loved" songs can't you stand?

For a bit of light relief. We're watching Christmas TOTP from 1995 and Robson & Jerome were on singing Unchained Melody. I bloody hate that song, I hate the Righteous Brothers version too, it's so wail-y (I get that's why it's unchained but I think it should be re-chained and chucked in the sea).

What classic songs make you want to chew your own ears off?

All I want for Christmas- Mariah Carey

VienneseWhirligig · 19/12/2020 23:32

Shape of You by Ed Sheeran and The Flood by Take That, both for their poor grammar. If The Flood was corrected I would actually quite like it but it fills me with rage when I hear Barlow's shit command of the English language. DS puts it on when he wants to laugh at my reaction. Umbrella by Rihanna. She can stick it up her arse and open it.

@TheSilentStars

Any faux crooner shite. Buble-boakery.

Anything by a breathy half sung half talked (because they can't actually sing) faux flower-hippy child.

I really did LOL at that! Very funny!

Reallyhadenough · 19/12/2020 23:41

Love Shack

Come on Eileen

  • many already mentioned.

I can't understand why these haven't disappeared into obscurity

Teaseall · 20/12/2020 00:05

Chaka Khan I feel for you, I detest it.
Hey Jude but then I'm not much of a fan of any Beatles songs to be honest.

Neolara · 20/12/2020 00:17

Most 80's pop, but early Madonna in particular. And Imagine.

commanderprimate · 20/12/2020 00:26

Several people have said Hey Jude, which is awful just due to its repetiveness, but even worse when you find out it was a song written for Julian Lennon to cheer him up because his parents had split.
”Hey Jude, don't be sad, I've chucked yer mam in and now I'm with Yoko. Stop yer whinging yer daft little shite, at least I'll stop smacking her about now.
Na na na na na na na..."
Must have been a great comfort.

justgeton · 20/12/2020 00:52

That bloody merry Christmas crap by slade

raffle · 20/12/2020 01:05

Any of Dido’s songs. She smushes all her words together and it’s torture!

Twobrews · 20/12/2020 01:07

This is me. Choirs should be banned from singing it.

Anything from Hamilton.

Anything by or featuring Beyoncé.

Nettleskeins · 21/12/2020 14:37

Hamilton is my LIFE.
Well, not literally, but how can you condemn it as anything other than sublime Wink

nuitdesetoiles · 21/12/2020 14:41

Baby it's cold outside... Rapey and predatory.
Santa baby... Seducing Santa and then fleecing him for presents. Not ok really.

Nettleskeins · 21/12/2020 14:42

Come on Eileen is a song we used to listen to near the end of a night of dancing in early 90s.which is why everyone feels nostalgic about it. I can see it isn't that good in itself. Just beloved by us fifty year olds..same with Madonna.

Soon no one will care or remember those days

nuitdesetoiles · 21/12/2020 14:43

Anything by Adele. 3 note shouty songs sung in a nasally tone all from the throat not the diaphragm.

Nettleskeins · 21/12/2020 14:44

Last Christmas by G Michael is dreadful. The rest of G Michael is wonderful, just not that one. Perhaps it's the apres ski vibe that annoys me...

Nettleskeins · 21/12/2020 14:49

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas - makes no sense in the UK, never has. Unless you are a hill farmer.

Nettleskeins · 21/12/2020 14:51

In which case you wouldn't want a white Christmas.

I have issue with "like the ones you used know"

Nettleskeins · 21/12/2020 14:52

To know

soanco68 · 21/12/2020 16:40

Imagine and anything by Paul macartney especially hey Jude. Oh And candle in the wind. Ahhhh

All of the songs in Matilda the musical.
Yesterday - such a dirge.
Windmills of the Mind
Most of the songs Terry Wogan used to discover and play ad nauseum on R2.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 18/01/2021 04:58

Whitney Houston, I will always love you. Cant fucking stand it or the way she sings it.

Shamefulcorners · 18/01/2021 05:49

Video killed the radio star makes me want to throw up.
