Rock music is a bad influence on my kids!

When my eldest son started secondary school in September of 2019 he made some new friends. For some reason he decided it was a good idea to ditch his old friends and hang around with new ones. Anyway, once his friends started coming round after school I noticed something about them - they were fans of rock! Even worse, they were in a rock band! My DS's new best friend was wearing a t-shirt that said 'Lynyrd Skynyrd'. And I'm sure you'll believe me when I say this band is a satanic ritual of crazed anarchists who think playing guitar is a talent!

After awhile his friends started being an influence on him! Instead of listening to empowering music he started listening to something called 'Classic Rock'. I didn't stop him as I wanted to investigate further.

After around 2 weeks of his newfound interest in rock music my son asked if he could play the drums! I have made it clear to him that if he ever wants to play an instrument he can play a classical instrument like a trombone or a piano.

I don't want my son to turn into a satanic anarchist, please help!

If you think Lynyrd Skynyrd are the worst possible influence on your son then you really shouldn't listen to any rap music......👀

(I'm guessing this post is a joke though)

karenadlington123 · 25/08/2020 23:41

I never let any of my son's listen to rap.

This must be a joke 😂

MiniTheMinx · 26/08/2020 21:19

I'd say his tastes are fairly tame, I'd recommend Reverend Beatman or The Devils Grin

amusedtodeath1 · 26/08/2020 21:21

This has to be a joke.....surely?

Satanic Lynyrd Skynyrd??? LMAO

Spray him with holy water and put on some hymns.

It's the only way to save his satan worshipping soul.

TwelvetyOClock · 26/08/2020 21:23

I know this is a joke, but what the fuck is empowering music? 😂

PenOrPencil · 26/08/2020 21:24

Have you heard of drill and grime?
How exactly is your son being influenced?

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/08/2020 21:25

I've been backstage with Marilyn Manson at a Metallica gig. Over 20 bloody years ago which is when this thread was relevant.

WouldBeGood · 26/08/2020 21:25

@karenadlington123 this is incredibly worrying.

I’d ensure that your WiFi settings permit only Radio Three to be listened to throughout the home. Engage a harpsichord tutor as a matter of urgency, swap the T shorts (eurgh) for striped shirts, and ensure your son does not mix with these hooligans. It’s a slippery slope.

Mandalalorianna · 26/08/2020 21:26

I recommend Rage against the Machine. Lovely gentle tunes, definitely appropriate for your sweet boy.

What about Korn, let's not forget them. Slipknot are also jolly good.

vodkaredbullgirl · 26/08/2020 21:27

Beavis and Butthead lol

HebeMumsnet · 26/08/2020 21:28

I was saying exactly this to my 9 yo DS just today as we listened to Mozart's Adagio in E, OP.

He had some awful trouble last year at school with a gang of kids who were getting into Stravinsky. They were WILD, I tell you.

Anyway, he's been a lot happier since he found some more like-minded friends.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/08/2020 21:28

@vodkaredbullgirl

Beavis and Butthead lol

tangycalligrapher · 26/08/2020 21:30

Are you The Laughing Gnome ? Oh how standards of musical corruption of minors are falling .

vodkaredbullgirl · 26/08/2020 21:30

Should send him to boarding school, ban his new friends. Problem solved.
