Will anyone recognise this description of a video and song?

I think that this song was within the last 15 years. I remember it on a Youtube video.
The singer is a white man in his 20s(?)
The song is about a young man revisiting his home - a place of abuse for him(?) and his mother(?) at the hands of a (step)father.

The video was of the singer outside the rustic home.

I have searched Google and can find nothing. Driving myself crazy!
Are there any musical savants out there in MN land?

Also following, I love these threads when someone finally gets it!

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 07/08/2020 23:32

Any chance its this?

rosegoldwatcher · 07/08/2020 23:32

If someone gets it I will owe them more than the Mumsnet picture of the bottle of wine!

Walls, home.. have included both of these in Youtube search and got nowhere...

I did immediately think Kelly Clarkson but then re-read and seen that you had said male!

rosegoldwatcher · 07/08/2020 23:34

@Wavescrashingonthebeach - not so rocky as that one.

It's not Richard marks Hazard is it?

I originally thought Martina McBride and Independence Day, but obviously she’s not male (and I think the song might be earlier anyway)

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 07/08/2020 23:47

I was stuck once and literally googled "saxophone guitar song" and got it straight away- Dave Stewart - Lily was Here.

Think of any random little clues, just keep it spinning round your head it will come to you!

Not a young man but Johnny Cash “Hurt” it has flash backs to him as a young man, it is sad but not about abuse as far as I remember.

@jesswhitesocks

Remember the Hazard thread! That was brilliant.
GoldenPlover · 07/08/2020 23:54

It's not someone like Eric Church is it?

banivani · 08/08/2020 07:37

Can you remember any details about the song itself, a bit of the lyrics or something? Am invested now!

rosegoldwatcher · 08/08/2020 13:06

I am regretting describing the genre as 'country'

I think the singer was beardy and a bit plump. (Not Mumfords)

The magic numbers?

coocoocadgoo · 08/08/2020 13:47

"Love for a Child" Jason Mraz?

rosegoldwatcher · 08/08/2020 13:56

Not Jason Mraz, not magic Numbers.
Very definitely a solo singer.

This list might help?

Your OP made me think Eminem Grin but he's not exactly a singer.

Love these threads.

rosegoldwatcher · 08/08/2020 14:12

Think it was not so long ago as the 15 years I originally posted. I was listening to James Blake's Retrograde at about the same time so 2013ish.

You would think that it would show up on that long list Glacinda - sadly it doesn't!

Gone- Justin timberlake (hear me out as I know he's not country), its a slow song, the video is in black and white and he walks around an empty home singing about loss I think, it's about 10 years old.

rosegoldwatcher · 08/08/2020 15:04

Not Justin Timberlake. But I don't think country really is the genre anyway.
The song was a slow one, emotional.

I'm not helping much am I?
